Ever since she sent the internet into meltdown with the surprise release of her Formation video prior to a killer performance at the Super Bowl in February, the world has been waiting on tenterhooks for Beyoncé to drop more new music. And while rumours of an April 1st album release (featuring a collaboration with Adele, no less) and whisperings that Bey would sync up her album release with the launch of her fashion line, Ivy Park, have since been proved wrong, the Beyhive finally has something tangible to cling on to - in the form of a mysterious teaser trailer titled 'Lemonade.'
The singer posted a short clip to her Instagram last night, which was later followed with what appears to be a full trailer, coming in at just over one minute long.
This is Beyoncé we're talking about, so naturally this is anything but a straight forward album teaser. From the horror film vibes (anyone else seriously freaked out by the sound effects?) to the girl squad wearing Day of the Dead style masks, the Beyoncé voiceover asking 'What are you hiding? Why can't you see me?' to the moment when Queen B appears to emerge from a burning building toting a baseball bat, we have plenty of questions that need answering.
None of these questions is bigger, though, than what actually is 'Lemonade'? A new single? A video album in the manner of Beyoncé's last Internet-breaking effort? An big budget HBO drama starring our queen (we can but hope)? An actual straightforward soft drink? After all, as eagle eyed meme-makers online have been quick to point out, Beyoncé has actually been posing with the sour citrus fruit on Instagram for months...
Whatever's going on, it seems that all will be revealed on on Saturday 23rd April on US TV channel HBO, as 'Lemonade' will premiere at 9pm US Eastern Time. Whatever Beyoncé has up her Givenchy-clad sleeve, we can confidently say that she'll slay it - and have us talking about it for months to come.
