Taylor Swift may be happy with her actor boyfriend Joe Alwyn at present, but she's had her fair share of heartbreak. When a fan tweeted Taylor that her boyfriend dumped her via text, Tay swiftly responsed: ‘Heartbreak is awful enough…The fact that you have to endure this kind of emotional abuse is so wrong. I know it's hard, but I think it's time to utilize the 'block' feature on your phone. This is just damaging. Do you have to see him around?'

Adding: ‘So don't give him the chance to say more damaging things. There is nothing wrong with avoiding people who hurt you. You fell in love, no games. Now you're saying goodbye with no games. Protect yourself, please.’

‘Shit happens, you know? It's just young people… it's normal! And honestly, who gives a shit? The hardest part was talking about it afterwards. Because when you talk about other people, it affects them in ways you can't predict.’ – on his break up with Kristen Stewart.

‘Hair is so linked to how we feel and everyone goes for something radical after a break-up, but my advice is not to touch your hair. It's the first thing women do but you're not in a fit state to make long-term decisions. You'll have to spend four years growing it out. Buy a lipstick instead. Go and kiss loads of other people, but don't f***ing touch your hair.’

Rita Ora

'At the time... I just wanted to crawl in my bed and die. But I got out of it the other side, I’m surviving. I kind of saw the light at the end of the tunnel.' – on her break up with Calvin Harris.

‘There are many stages of grief. It's sad, something coming to an end. It cracks you open, in a way—cracks you open to feeling. When you try to avoid the pain, it creates greater pain. I'm a human being, having a human experience in front of the world. I wish it weren't in front of the world. I try really hard to rise above it.’– on her breakup with Brad Pitt.

Jennifer Lopez

‘I remain an eternal optimist about love. I believe in love. It's still my biggest dream. I am positive-determined to move forward with my life, bring up my babies, and do the best job I can as a mother, entertainer, and person. I now look forward to new challenges. I feel strong.’

Nicole Kidman

'I'm not sure what the future holds but I do know that I'm going to be positive and not wake up feeling desperate. As my dad said 'Nic, it is what it is, it's not what it should have been, not what it could have been, it is what it is’. – on her split from Tom Cruise.

Miley Cyrus

'I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year.' – on her breakup with Liam Hemsworth.

'It ended in a way that was awful. When something ends in a way like that, it's important if you can, in a way, go back and revisit it and either shut that door or create a new room. So it was a very healthy, cathartic experience.' – on breaking up with Jude Law.

‘When I was first going through my separation, someone said to me, 'It will take you half as long as you were in the relationship before you'll feel better.' And I wanted to knock them out cold across the table. Because, of course, I was in agony. And the last thing I wanted to think was that I was going to stay that way for a long time. But interestingly enough, it is over four years later - we were together eight years - and I finally feel like, cool. I feel better.’ – on Ethan Hawke.

Sarah Hyland

'There are two quotes that I want to say. One is a Dylan Thomas poem 'Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light,' which is one of my favorite poems, it just strikes a chord in me. And also Robert Frost's 'The only way out is through'. People have to go through things in order to become the person that they are today, and that's that.'

Reese Witherspoon

'I was so, so young [when I got married at 24],' she says 'I learnt a lot, though. It was an excellent opportunity for me to really find out what it means to be a partner and to be in a marriage and it’s not anything that I thought it was.' - on divorcing Ryan Phillippe.

'I think work saved me, and I'm very grateful that I had work to do. I may have thrown myself off a building. Life is an adjustment. It's different. My sons aren't with me right now, they're with their father, and I'm not very comfortable with the idea of my children not living together. There are pros and cons, but I feel good now.' – on splitting from Guy Ritchie.

…And if all else fails, here's Adele's ‘break up’ playlist she shared with People:

I Can't Make You Love Me - Bonnie Raitt

After the Storm - Mumford & Sons

Cosmic Love - Florence + The Machine

This Year's Love - David Gray

Not Like the Movies - Katy Perry

All I Could Do Is Cry - Etta James
