Fashion loves art. It’s an affair that’s lasted longer than most celebrity marriages, and anyone who disagrees clearly hasn’t attended the Venice Biennale, Art Basel or Frieze in London. And for good reason: it’s the meeting of minds, really. Those who see the world in brushstrokes, and those who wear Comme des Garçons as a daily philosophical exercise. Enter the Serpentine Summer Party, the annual fundraiser event and cultural petri dish held by the Serpentine Galleries in London’s Kensington Gardens.
Once the scene of Princess Di’s era-defining revenge dress, and later the site of Jude Law and Sienna Miller’s hard launch after meeting on the set of Alfie, the Serpentine’s annual soirée remains both a society calendar fixture and a celebration of the opening of Serpentine Pavilion, each year designed by a different architect.

To ring in the unveiling of this year’s Pavilion, designed by the Bangladeshi architect and her Dhaka-based firm Marina Tabassum Architects (MTA), titled A Capsule in Time (a project reflecting on themes of permanence, impermanence and legacy in architecture), the guest list, naturally, rose to to the occasion, proving once more that art is more of a savvy investment for the upper crust - it’s a reason to step out, polish up, and mingle with the like-minded.
