The BAFTAs are here! Not that we’re biased or anything, but Britain’s annual celebration of achievement in cinema is one of our favourite dates in the awards season calendar. From the best red carpet fashion moments to the winning actors and actresses, we’ll be bringing you all the news as it happens this evening. Not yet caught up on the biggest talking points so far? Check out our handy guide to everything you need to know before the ceremony gets under way.
BAFTAs 2016: The Ceremony
The Revenant Wins Best Film BAFTA 2016
It seems that eating that raw bison liver paid off... The BAFTAs was a stellar night for The Revenant, which was awarded the coveted Best Film gong as well as the honours listed below. Nice work.
Leonardo DiCaprio Wins Best Actor BAFTA 2016
He did it! Mr DiCaprio gained his first ever BAFTA for his gruelling role in The Revenant. Surely Oscar glory is finally beckoning? We've got our fingers crossed for you, pal!
Brie Larson Wins Best Actress BAFTA 2016
She did it again! Brie Larson bagged yet another nod for her standout role in Room. If you haven't done so already, it's about time you followed her on Instagram - her #ThrowbackThursday posts are priceless, for one thing.
Alejandro G. Inarritu Wins Best Director BAFTA 2016
The Revenant director (who was nominated last year for Birdman) gave a shout out to Leonardo DiCaprio's hard work in his speech, and also claimed to be unable to pronounce Domhnall Gleeson's name...
The Big Short Wins Best Original Screenplay BAFTA 2016
Sub-prime mortgages may not sound like the sexiest subject for a film, but The Big Short pulled it off!
Kate Winslet Wins Best Supporting Actress BAFTA 2016
Congratulations to one of the loveliest actresses in the industry! Kate wins it (sorry) for her role in the Steve Jobs biopic. 'It's been a great year for women in film,' she said in her acceptance speech. Amen.
Mark Rylance Wins Best Supporting Actor BAFTA 2016
The much-respected thespian took the gong for his role in Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies, sending the director to pick up the award in his place. Special mention should go to Rebel Wilson, whose vaguely un-PC speech nearly brought down the (Royal Opera) house.
John Boyega Wins The EE Rising Star Award BAFTA 2016
Could we love Star Wars star John Boyega any more? Nope. Peckham’s favourite son beat Brie Larson, Dakota Johnson, Bel Powley and Taron Egerton to snag the coveted Rising Star Award. And what a lovely speech!
For a unique take on the proceedings, check out this 'mask's eye view' video of the moment John wins his award, filmed on the 4GEE Capture Cam.
Brooklyn Wins Outstanding British Film Award BAFTA 2016
Colm Toibin’s coming-of-age novel turned film took the first major award of the night for Outstanding British Film.
The Kiss Cam
Happy Valentine's Day! Stephen Fry decided to kick off the proceedings with a dose of awkwardness, introducing the very American concept of the 'Kiss Cam.' First up, man of the moment Leonardo DiCaprio shared a quick kiss with the Dowager Countess, sorry, Dame Maggie Smith. Others weren't so forthcoming, however - IRL couple Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender refused to snog on screen.
BAFTAs 2016: Red Carpet Arrivals
Watch Laura Whitmore chat to stars like Eddie Redmayne, John Boyega, Dakota Johnson and Jack O'Connell as they take to the red carpet on Valentine's Day...
Dakota Johnson has opted for a simple gown in one stunning shade of red (sorry not sorry.)
Julianne Moore (who walked away with the Best Actress gong at last year's ceremony) looks as chic as ever in a halterneck white gown with black neck detail.
When asked by a reporter if she had 'lots to catch up with Leo about?' Kate Winslet (who's wearing Antonio Berardi, btw) replied: 'No, I see him all the time!' We ship you, Leo and Kate.
Cate Blanchett has done it again. Never one to play it safe on the red carpet, the Carol star has stolen the show in a dream of a dress, with a feathered skirt and embellished bodice. We are not worthy.
Diary of a Teenage Girl star Bel Powley is channelling Joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat in a shimmering striped rainbow dress. She's up against John Boyega (looking extremely dapper this evening), Brie Larson and Dakota Johnson of Fifty Shades fame in the EE Rising Star category.
Saoirse Ronan looks utterly charming in custom-made Burberry. If only we had Christopher Bailey on speed dial...
She's been nominated twice for her standout roles in The Danish Girl and Ex Machina, and Alicia Vikander is definitely a fashion winner in an embellished leather gown by Louis Vuitton. Top marks.
