Another day, another Hollywood couple shattering our dreams of life-long love. This time round it's Chris Pratt and Anna Faris, who have announced via a joint statement on social media that they have decided to separate after eight years of marriage.

'Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating,' read the post on Chris Pratt's official Facebook account. 'We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another.'

The couple, who have one son called Jack, met in 2007 on the set of rom-com Take Me Home Tonight and married in 2009. They frequently sang each other's praises on the red carpet and were widely considered to be one of Hollywood's most solid couples. As recently as April, Pratt gave a shout out to his wife while receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, saying: 'Without you, none of this would mean anything'.

38-year-old Pratt's star has been on the rise since he landed the lead roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, which have both spawned franchises. He lost a considerable amount of weight for the roles and buffed up, having been best known as the cuddly idiot Andy Dwyer in US comedy Parks and Recreation. Meanwhile 40-year-old Faris has found a smaller degree of fame thanks to her breakout role in the Scary Movie series way back in the early 2000s. She now stars in US sitcom Mom.

The only minor blip in their relationship was last year when rumours swirled that Pratt and his Passengers co-star Jennifer Lawrence might have fallen in love. It was categorically denied by both parties, but Faris did reveal that she was hurt by the tabloid fodder at the time, telling US Weekly that it made her feel 'incredibly insecure'. She did however invite Lawrence onto her podcast 'Anna Faris Is Unqualified', showing that there was no bad blood between the women.

This most recent split comes after the shock break-ups of Mark Ronson and Josephine de la Baume, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, proving maybe acting isn't the best career for a long-lasting relationship.
