The Met Gala is arguably the biggest night in the fashion calendar, and with only around 700 tickets available each year, it’s fair to say that the guest list is pretty exclusive.
One star who probably won’t be receiving an invite to next year’s Costume Institute gala is Amy Schumer – and she couldn’t be happier about it.
The comedian, who made her debut on the Met Museum’s iconic steps for this year’s ‘Manus x Machina’ event, has told Sirius XM’s Howard Stern that attending the annual ball felt ‘more like a punishment’ than a fun night out. Ouch.
Never one to mince her words, she revealed that despite the dresses, the drama and the Hiddleswift dance-offs, the evening felt less than genuine. ‘It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation […] I don’t like the farce,’ she revealed. We’re guessing that Anna Wintour, who put the comedian and author on the cover of US Vogue earlier this year, will brush off Schumer’s characteristically blunt comments with a pin.
‘We’re dressed up like a bunch of a**holes. I don’t like it,’ she added. ‘I have no interest in fashion […] I don’t care.’ Anyone else feeling slightly sorry for Alexander Wang, who designed Schumer’s red gown for the event?

Even the prospect of coming face-to-face with Queen B herself wasn’t enough to turn the comedian’s night around. ‘I got to meet Beyoncé and she was like, “Is this your first Met Gala?”’ Amy revealed. Her response? ‘I was like, “It’s my last.”’ Ouch…
While it’s a little disappointing that the Met Gala expectation doesn’t always match up with the reality, Amy’s candour is also pretty heartening for us mere mortals. More like this in the future, please.
