Amy Schumer Changes Son’s Name After Realising It Sounded Like ‘Genital’

It turns out Amy Schumer was one of the last people to realise that her son’s name sounded like genital. Eleven months ago, in tribute to the comedian David Attell, Amy and her husband Chris Fischer named their son Gene Attel Fischer. But now, the actress has said the pair have changed the name, after they realised what ‘Gene Attell’ sounded like.

‘So do you guys know that Gene, our baby’s name is officially changed? It’s now Gene David Fischer,’ Schumer said, speaking on her podcast Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls 1 Keith. ‘It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realised that we, by accident, named our son "genital."'

The unfortunate name mishap was first pointed out by actor Claudia O’Doherty (Love), who mentioned to Schumer how the name sounded. Speaking on the podcast, she said, ‘My mom was like, “Amy’s called her son ‘genital.” And I was like, “What are you talking about?"'

Gene, her son's first name, is thought to be in honor of late comedian Gene Wilder. Amy had dedicated her son's middle name to her friend, and fellow comic, David Attell who starred with Amy in Trainwreck as her homeless best friend Noah. The actress explained that her father Gordon Schumer's middle name is also David, 'So, two stones.' she added.

Schumer gave birth to Gene, her first child, in May 2019. Her pregnancy had seen her hospitalised in November 2018 with hyperemesis gravidarum, which continued into her third trimester. ‘Still pregnant and puking,’ she said on social media in April last year. ‘Because money rarely goes to medical studies for women such as hyperemesis or endometriosis and instead goes to things like dicks not getting hard enough or old guys who want harder dicks.’
