Amy Schumer has just made a monumental dent in the seemingly unbreakable glass ceiling, as she is the first woman to have ever made it into the Forbes’ Highest Paid Comedians list.

Placed at number four, Amy earned her spot after garnering over $17 million through her comic career. The comedian was close behind Kevin Hart, who stole the top spot after making $87.5 million over the past year through his comedy and collaborations with stores such as H&M.

Amy’s success was undoubtedly well earned having released her first book The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo this year, alongside her debut film Trainwreck. The 35-year-old also finished her debut UK tour, further establishing her as one of the world’s highest-paid comedians.

Forbes' Associate Producer Madeline Berg exclusively told the Independent, ‘For the first time ever a woman made the list with earnings of $17.5million. But, unfortunately, the world of comedy seems to still be stuck on the stereotype that "women aren't funny" making it difficult for women to break into the world of stand up and be taken seriously.'

She added, 'Luckily, Schumer, along with other contemporary female comics, are paving the way.’

But Amy won’t let her earnings go to her head, as she recently made the headlines after leaving a $1,000 tip for a $77 bill for bartenders when she attended the theatre one evening.

And with the news that a female comedian is finally being taken seriously within the tough to crack industry, here’s to hoping that we're one step closer to achieving equality and closing the gender pay gap once and for all.
