When Amal Clooney joined the procession ofA-list guests winding their way from the gates of Windsor Castle towards St George’s Chapel for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (sorry, that’s the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to give them their newly announced royal titles) on Saturday, an audible gasp swept around the Grazia office. In her sunshine yellow bespoke midi dress by Stella McCartney (also responsible for dressing Oprah Winfrey and, as it later become apparent, for designing the bride’s second wedding gown, a more laidback halterneck style in silk crepe), Amal immediately topped every best dressed list being feverishly composed in news rooms in the UK and beyond.
Paired with a custom design by one of the royal family’s go-to milliners, Stephen Jones (also a guest at the ceremony), Amal’s take on wedding guest style managed to tick off every part of a presumably very tricky brief, balancing considerations of royal etiquette (the traditional capped sleeves and demure midi length) with unexpected flourishes (the draped detailing at the side and, of course, the bold burst of colour).

Her husband George, meanwhile, appeared to miss the 'morning dress' memo, opting instead for a very casual grey suit...
When it came to her accessories, it seems that Amal decided to keep things in the family. Her box clutch bag, fashioned from chocolate brown leather with a gold-plated brass finish, is a bespoke design from her younger sister Tala Alamuddin’s eponymous label, TALA.
By spotlighting her little sister’s label during what will surely prove to be the most watched TV event of the year, Amal gave us a sneak preview of what we can expect from TALA’s first collection of leather accessories. Dubbed ‘Rock ‘n’ Fringe’ (in what’s surely a nod to the idiosyncratic fringed earrings that have dominated her previous drops from the brand, formerly known as Totally Tala), it’s set to launch globally in October 2018, having previously only been available in Singapore. How's that for sisterly support?
