Rose Ferguson is a model-turned-renowned-nutritionist who was kind enough, recently, to give Grazia the inside scoop on her supplement regime. Previously a model - Rose has starred in campagins for the likes of Miu Miu, Prada and walked the runway for McQueen - Rose switched careers to naturopathic nutritionist more than a decade ago. 'My inner nutrition nerd led me back to college ', says Rose, who went on to qualify as a naturopath and nutritionist in 2009. Rose was recently selected by Dior Beauty to take part in a Skincare Talk to suport the launch of the new Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Serum, £59.50, a product packed with the sort of botanicals that appeal to the keen eye of a nutritionist. Here Rose talks to Grazia about all things supplements. What can we eat or take to get glowing skin? Exactly what supplements should we be taking daily? Rose answered all this and more:
What should I be eating or drinking to get glowing skin?
'It's the age old question,' says Rose, 'and I have some age old answers. First off, water. Hydration is crucial when it comes to glowing skin. Sleep is also cricial. Then there's fibre. It's not something people automatically associate with glowing skin, but we need fibre to help eliminate things that we don't want in our system. Giving our liver some love is really key too, green leafy vegetables are helpful when it comes to the liver's detox phases. If your liver is sluggish you feel sluggish and your skin looks dull. Make an effort to eat more vegetables, fruit and wholegrains. Seeds are great too because they're hard for our bodies to break down. Eat those whoegrains, seeds, leafy greens and drink water! If you feel you need a little help getting fibre into your diet there's a great supplement called Renew Life Completely Clear Organic Prebiotic Fiber, £14.32.'
What supplements should I be taking every day?
'Let's start with vitamin C. I know it's an obvious one and sounds boring but it's the most brilliant anit-oxidant and very accessible, it's great for your immune system and it's great for your skin too. Then there's zinc. A lot of people aren't aware that their zinc levels are depleted, it's quite common, so it's always worth taking. I always make sure I take a "good fat" supplement, whether that's an omega three or a fatty acid called phosphatidylcholine, which is my personal favourite when it comes to skin. It's great for the lipid layer of skin and it really helps to calm inflammation too. I take collagen too but I think of it more as an all-round body helper as opposed to a skin-specific supplement. I like powder form collagen. If you're a bone broth person then great, but when it comes to taking collagen every day I prefer a powder. I like Puori Pure Collagen Peptides, £29.99. I do believe with things like collagen, that you have to be careful where you get it from. Invest and get a really good quality one. There are vegan forms of collagen out there too.'
'I also take quite a high B6 for hormones. It's great for ladies and their hormones. I take an iron supplement via a transdermal patch too. All of that is daily and I do a probiotoc course once every six months as well.' Scroll down to shop the supplements below.
What does a nutritionist look for in their skincare?
'I definitely think my skin's holding up well because of what I eat. I'm no angel, I used to smoke, but I'm pretty good most of the time. You have to remember your skin is your biggest organ and it absorbs whatever you put on it. I love the Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Serum, £64, they've gone to a lot of effort to make it very botanical and I really appreciate that as a nutritionist. It makes a big difference to me. I try to keep things as natural as possible but at the end of the day you do want your skincare to work.'
