When No7 launched its Future Renew range in 2023 there was something of a frenzy among the beauty set. The pioneering peptide technology impressed seasoned beauty editors in the first instance and as for Boots' loyal consumer base, they had banded together to form a 94,000-strong waitlist long before it had even hit the shelves. And Future Renew did turn out to be worth the hype - you can look to the consistently excellent online customer reviews for proof, including our own rave review of the No7 Future Renew Daily Defence Shield SPF50. Geared towards reversing the signs of skin damage, the entire Future Renew range has gone from strength to strength since, with one product selling every seven seconds. It's a surprise, then, that the brand has decided to launch a new serum - one tailor made for beauty sleep. Meet the No7 Future Renew Damage Reversal Night Serum, £39.95.

What does the No7 Future Renew Damage Reversal Night Serum do?

This night serum has been designed to 'reverse visible signs of skin damage while you sleep.' Your skin works to repair itself three times harder at night than it does during the day and this serum has been designed to make the most of those natural processes. Ingredients wise there's Night-Active Pepticology, a clever combination of peptides (proteins that boost your skin's collagen production and elasticity) and circadian rhythm technology that have been made to synchronise with your skins natural nightly repair cycle. So, does it really work?

What No7 says: 'Over time, damage that has developed under the skin becomes increasingly visible - but with No7 Future Renew™ Damage Reversal Serum, you can give your skin a second chance.
This lightweight, powerful serum has been developed by world-leading scientists to reverse the visible signs of skin damage, including fine lines and wrinkles, uneven tone and texture, dry skin and the feeling of lost elasticity.'

One reviewer said: 'I enjoyed using this product. Its texture is lovely and smooth, and it absorbs into the skin very quickly, leaving my skin feeling hydrated afterwards. It feels luxurious and like I am treating myself. It is for more mature skin, like mine, and it has some skin-firming properties, too. There is a slight scent to it, which I do not mind. I definitely recommend buying it again.'

Rachael Martin, beauty editor, says: 'While results weren't as quick to arrive as I had expected given the promises on the label, three weeks into using it every night and I am impressed. My complexion looks fresher and smoother and it's pleasant to wear - a great pick for anyone who swerves rich creams or serum formulas.'

Pros

  • Dermatologist approved
  • Sinks in beautifully

Cons

  • Has a slight scent which some customers might not like

How to use the No7 Future Renew Damage Reversal Night Serum

Apply two pea sized pumps of the serum across a freshly cleansed complexion, distributing down the neck and chest. Follow with your moisturiser. And you're using the original Future Renew Serum? Turns out it's not time to set that one aside. Instead, No7 suggests using them together for 'the best results possible.'

Our verdict

Rachael Martin, beauty editor says: 'I've been using this every evening for the past three weeks and I've been pleasantly surprised. Despite the fact I typically reach for thicker, more luxurious serums, I found the texture of this one quite refreshing. It's light and airy, and is perfect for the hotter weather. It smooths onto skin beautifully, too, leaving my complexion with a subtle gleam. While there is an immediate glow and initial hit of hydration, I can't say I saw results worth writing home about after the first use. Nor did I see results in a week, either, despite what No7 claims. Sandwiched together with something more cosseting like my beloved Sisley Black Rose Moisturiser, I found my skin did feel soft, soothed and comfortable before bed. Of course, the proof was in the pudding come morning.

As I mentioned, I didn't see results immediately, but looking in the mirror as I type I do see a difference today (three weeks later). My complexion appears a lot more even in tone - redness, especially around my jawline, appears lessened while the skin around my eyes and cheeks are plumper and less hollow. The lines around my mouth, too, are considerably softer. My skin, I've decided, is definitely fresher looking. I've changed nothing else in my routine, so it seems only fair I hold the combination of peptides with the fancy circadian rhythm technology responsible. If, like me, you're experiencing the first signs of fine lines, your skin will drink this stuff up, and, provided you're patient, you'll come to appreciate the results. While they aren't dramatic at this point, I definitely appear more rested, even if last night's four hours begs to differ. The testing continues...'

Final thoughts

As serums go, this one is refreshingly inexpensive at under £40. While the results didn't come quickly or dramatically, my skin has improved since I've first incorporated it into my routine. There's a 'glow' to my complexion that wasn't there before. And the fine, crepey lines around my eyes are softer. I'll remain loyal to the serum for now, and will come back with my final verdict when it's empty, but so far, so good. Watch this space...
