Mollie King Reveals The £3.65 Beauty Buy She’s Used For Over 15 Years

Enter Mollie King – the natural beauty whose classic style we’ve admired forever. Mollie’s recently become the face of Simple’s #ChooseKindness campaign – an initiative encouraging 1-million Simple Acts Of Kindness, so Grazia caught up with her to chat about the campaign and obviously we took the opportunity to have a deep dive into her beauty bag.

On Small Acts of Kindness…

‘The pandemic has been really testing for all of us and as a result people have really pulled together and we’ve realised how important it is to be there for one another.

The thing with kindness is that we can all be kind, it’s so easy to do but it’s just about putting the time aside to do it. For me, it’s making a phone call, sending a card rather than a text message or writing a letter to someone. With my parents, I’ve been taking food over to them to make sure they don’t have to go out as much as normal and always have food in the fridge.

I know from my own experience, receiving a card really picks up my day. I know it’s not a huge gesture, but it is something that’s really easy to do. It’s nice to let people know that you’re thinking of them. If I know one of my best friends has something important in their diary, I try to pop it in my calendar too so I can send them a message or a card to lift them up. It’s these small gestures that you always remember.’

On Sustainable Beauty…

‘One of the things I love the most about Simple is that they’re so kind to the planet and everything is recyclable where possible, the wipes are biodegradable. I love the fact Simple are thinking about the planet and they’re also really kind to animals. They’re PETA certified and cruelty-free. I’m animal obsessed so the fact that they’re PETA certified is really important to me.

My favourite product that I’ve been using for years and years, even before the band, is the biodegradable Simple wipes. They’re so handy for on-the-go when you want to take your make-up off or touch things up.’

On Summer Beauty Must-Haves…

‘I recently discovered the Shiseido foundation which I’ve been loving because it’s super light. Another summer essential, that I’ve been doing for a couple of years now, is using a glossy lipstick on my lips and then applying it onto my cheeks as a blusher. I remember when I was learning all about make-up when I came into the band and my make-up artist, Celena Hancock said, ‘whenever you’re worried about lipsticks and blushers clashing or not being the right match, just apply whatever you put on your lips onto the apples of your cheek.’ It’s something that’s really stuck, because if you’re on the move or don’t have all your make-up on you for a touch-up, as long as you have your lipstick – you have your blusher as well. I love Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipstick.’

‘For summer I always try and keep my skin glossy and glowing. I can sometimes get a bit too shiny, so I try and have a really light compact powder handy to do my T-zone. Foundation wise I love the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light if I’m out for the full day or the Shiseido Foundation, which keeps everything light and glowy. For highlighter I use the Charlotte Tilbury Highlight and Contour palette. For eyes I’ve been keeping it natural, just wearing mascara, and I also put a touch of the Charlotte Tilbury blush on my eyelids for a pinky pearly eye colour. I found I’ve stepped away from the powder eye colours and now go for creamy based ones.'

On The Best Skincare Advice She’s Ever Received…

‘Definitely SPF. Living in London I used to think I didn’t need to wear it every day and it was only needed on those sunny days, but actually I know now that I need to be wearing it all the time. This is a piece of advice I received from the amazing facialist Teresa Tarmey who is absolutely brilliant for skincare.’

On Beauty Tools…

‘Over lockdown while I’ve had a bit more time, I’ve started using a jade roller. I saw all the beauty influencers using them and thought I’d give it a go! Other than that, I stick more to the products to do the work - I do love a face mask or a sheet mask but gadgets wise I’d say a jade roller.’
