Summer always ushers in a line-up of make-up essentials that speak to a new climate and the beauty problems that come with it. For me, the question of a bullet-proof base comes into play. When the heatwave begin to hit and my foundation starts to slip, I opt for a lightweight, breathable base that provides subtle coverage and maximum comfort. I look for built in sun protection, too. Which is why tinted sunscreens have become my newest obsession. This category of skincare and make-up hybrids have exploded of late thanks to their glowy, healthy-looking, 'clean girl' finish. In the last few months alone we have seen Merit's The Uniform Tinted Mineral SPF 50, the Supergoop! Protec Daily SPF Tint SPF 50, £40, and  Beauty of Joseon's Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen, £17, hard launch onto our social media feeds. But my newest skin glossing fixation comes courtesy of the new Jones Road's Everyday Sunscreen, £40.

It may have taken legendary make-up artist and beauty brand founder, Bobbi Brown, a number of years to develop, but like many of Jones Road's offerings, it was certainly worth the wait. We have already declared our love for the brand's very first Just Enough Tinted Moisturiser, and the next of Jones Road's firsts follows suit with a product that reinvents mineral sunscreens for the better.

What is the Jones Road Everyday Sunscreen

Speaking about her newest innovation, Brown explains, 'Everyday Sunscreen took many years to develop. I had to make sure that not only was it clean and effective but that it also paired incredibly well with make-up. It needed to look natural, layer well, and not leave a dry or uncomfortable finish. This is my new ideal base for everyday protection, and works perfectly with all of my Jones Road make-up.'

There has been much debate about the pros and cons of using sunscreens that provide protection through chemical filters or mineral filters, but Brown saw fit to hone in on the latter which uses zinc oxide to build a physical sun protection. But before you ask about the notorious natural white cast mineral sunscreens leave on darker skin tones, note that Brown has done her due diligence here too - she's included colour-correcting pigments in each tinted shade to offset any ashy, grey finish.

Another characteristic of mineral sunscreens that Jones Road has sought to correct if the overall feel. Usually thicker and pastier than chemical sunscreens, the Everyday Sunscreen has flipped the script on mineral SPFs with a texture that ups the comfort factor. It is lightweight, smooth and glides over to reveal a lit-from-within sheen on the skin. Meaning there is no pilling, sliding, or heavy-feeling in sight.

My honest review of the Jones Road Everyday Sunscreen

Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'I tend to sit on the chemical filter side of the sunscreen debate, purely based on the fact that I favour a lightweight, undetectable SPF that leaves my skin without a trace of ashy discolouration. And, the fact that, while mineral sunscreens have their benefits (they are great for sensitive skin and the environment), I haven't found one that doesn't leave my skin feeling weighed down. That was until I tried Jones Road Everyday Sunscreen. I'm not saying it's the lightest SPF I've used - it needs to be worked into the skin - but after some light massage it glides over like butter leaving you glossy and never greasy. It looks (and feels) totally traceless. As for make-up? It pairs beautifully, there's no caking my skin looks more radiant. That said, the SPF leaves my skin so perfected and glowy I sometimes even forgo foundation altogether. It's a win-win.'

What the brand says: 'Everyday Sunscreen is a broad spectrum mineral SPF 30 for daily sun protection that pairs perfectly with make-up. Each tinted shade contains color-correcting pigments to help offset white cast, a natural result of the physical sun protection that zinc oxide provides, for a natural finish. Lightweight and smooth, it’s the ideal base for make-up.'

What we know: Years in the making, Jones Road seems to have cracked all our pet peeves with mineral sunscreens, read: a heavy finish and white cast on medium to deep skin tones. The Jones Road Everyday Sunscreen seems to correct all those wrongs with a formula that leaves skin looking so good you could forgo foundation.

As for make-up? Mines sits atop like a treat, sans caking and helps to boost overall radiance, but the SPF leaves my skin so perfected I sometimes even forgo foundation. It's a win-win.'
