Here’s Why We Should All Be Layering Our Perfume, According To Huda Beauty

Both Huda Kattan and her sister Mona Kattan are co-founders of Huda Beauty and crowds of beauty obsessives have been mad for it since day dot. Huda Kattan is a makeup artist turned beauty blogger complete with millions of followers, and her sister Mona Kattan (who herself boasts 2.2 million Instagram followers) was responsible for initiating Huda's first foray into coining a beauty line. Both of them, needless to say, are passionate about the Huda Beauty fragrance line, Kayali.

Speaking to Grazia, Mona talked us through her own experience with scent, and the concept of layering different fragrances.

Why Layer Your Perfume?

'There are a few fragrances in the range so that you can layer them, because that's what we do. It didn't feel right promoting one fragrance on its own because we never really wear a single fragrance by itself. I don't think I've left the house with just one fragrance on in twenty years!'

How NOT To Layer Perfume:

'Ages ago when I wasn't working, before I'd leave the house, I would wear like twenty to twenty five fragrances. No joke. And then I thought, this is taking way too long, I should mix them. So I extracted them from their bottles and mixed them all together so I could spray them on in one go. It didn't work. Layering is necessary.'

Layering Creates A Unique Scent

'It's all about individuality. I don't like smelling like anyone else. I like it when I do my own thing and smell completely different. You can make your scent suit your mood with layering too. I think it's very emotional, it can really impact how you feel.'

Scent And Nostalgia

'Scent is so connected to memories, and we love that side of it. Each perfume that I've worn enough to finish the bottle can transport me back to a memory or a time. No matter what, when I smell it, I'll remember the first time period I wore it in, it's one of the reasons we're so obsessed with fragrances.' Huda agrees with Mona. She notes 'J'adore takes me straight back to high school.'
