LED face mask review

I'm a self-certified cynic. As a beauty journalist, it comes with the territory. With a new crop of products dropping every week, each claiming to have cracked the code of next-level beauty, one tends to turn their nose until a product proves its worth. Case in point: the FAQ™ 202 Silicone LED Mask, which comes equipped with a seriously impressive list of claims. Promising to firm, rejuvenate and repair, it is said to reduce wrinkles by 32%, sebum by 18%, and acne by 48%, all in a mere two weeks. This is why it has an equally impressive price tag – £719, to be precise. My cynicism was firmly in place. Having used the mask over the last few months, however, I have to tell you I stand corrected.

LED face masks have come a long way in recent years. No longer a treatment which can only be carried out by clinics, LED therapy is now available for personal use through a range of cutting-edge devices that promise to bring the same level of salon-grade skin-renewing technology to the comfort of your own home. But not all masks are built the same. There are affordable models and more robust ones, which, the deeper you delve into its make up, makes more sense as far as price is concerned. If you're keen on investing in one of the best, though, I'd suggest acting fast, as FAQ™ 202 Silicone LED Face Mask is available on Amazon, for £575 reduced from the usual £719 price tag.

What is the FAQ™ 202 Silicone LED Face Mask?

From the upmarket extension of Swedish skincare powerhouse Foreo, which has brought us everything from cleansing to micro-current facelift devices, comes the FAQ 200 Collection. A breakthrough range of LED-forward devices that deliver collagen-boosting LED and Near Infrared (NIR) light therapy to strengthen and regenerate the skin, within 6-12 weeks of consistent use. The collection offers two face masks, the FAQTM 201 and 202 Silicone LED Face Masks, as well the newly launched FAQ™ 211 Anti-aging Neck & Décolleté LED Mask, £379, and the FAQ™ 221 Anti-aging LED Hand Mask, £289.

Unlike other LED masks which often exclusively offer red and/or green and blue light therapy, the FAQ™ 202 Silicone LED Face Mask boasts seven different wavelengths of LED light and NIR to penetrate deep beneath the skin's surface to target a range of concerns including fine lines, rosacea and acne.

The seven wavelengths of LED light include: red light to combat wrinkles and increases collagen production; white light to enhance nutrient absorption in skin to treat wounds; purple light to increase cell renewal and regeneration; blue light to combat acne-causing bacteria; cyan light to release stress and inflammation; yellow light to encourage lymphatic drainage and brighten; green light to soothe sensitivity and promote cell absorption; as well as an eighth light, the NIR to stimulate collagen production, reduce lines, sun spots and generally brighten.

Is the FAQ™ 202 Silicone LED Face Mask worth the investment?

£719 is not an easy amount of cash to part with but Dr. Raj Arora,GP and aesthetic doctor, reassures us that the mask is a worthy investment. 'It is an innovative mask with eight different light therapies - more therapies than any other mask on the market. It also has 600 points of light located in optimal places in the mask to ensure you're getting the most out of the reflection of the LED therapy, it therefore gives you maximum surface coverage, too.'

Dr. Arora explains that one of the best features of the mask lies in its clever construction. The lights point away from the eyes to avoid disturbance, it is made of breathable, flexible silicone, it's wireless, too, meaning you aren't chained to a plug socket while using it.

As a medical professional, Dr. Arora vouches for the mask because, 'it fits correctly, is comfortable, malleable, wireless, so patients and clients are likely to use it more often which means there is an increase in compliance and consistency – and if you use it more, you will get more benefits from it.'

With a focus on tech, the mask is also best-used via the FAQ app which includes pre-set treatment plans for anyone who welcomes guidance. You can also use the app to switch the mask on and off, select the right light for your skin, the light intensity, and track how long you've been using it (15 mins max per session). You don't have to use an app, though, as the single universal button embedded into the 'heated diamond' (located at the centre forehead) can turn the mask on and select different lights and it also doubles up as a treatment for forehead frown lines.

Sameeha using the FAQ 202 Mask

My honest review of the FAQ™ 202 Silicone LED face mask:

It's hard to think that a single product can have such universal appeal, but this mask is a lesson in what a beneficial investment for the skin looks like. Having used it for the best part of the last two months, perhaps not as consistently as I'd hoped, I can seriously say I can't go without it – so much so, i keep it placed within handy reach on my bedside table. While I still get breakouts, the mask has certainly helped to calm my inflammation, helps my skin to heal post-breakout, and has generally toned and brightened. Thanks to its multi-faceted nature, I always rely on blue, cyan and white lights, to target my problem areas, which isn't something I can say about any other mask I've used. Another win? Comfort levels. It is lightweight, fits almost like a second skin, and is portable, so I can quite literally go about my business without thinking twice. I've never stuck to an at-home device as religiously as this one, and that is something in itself.
