Beauty Trend Alert: Is Cream Skin The New Glass Skin?

According to beauty trend forecasters, cream skin (skin with a subtle glow) is set to be the new 'thing'.

Glass skin reeled in its fair share of beauty mania in 2019 – and it's easy to see why. The uber shiny finish that strutted its way down many a catwalk, and shone from under the soft spotlight of many a photo shoot, is a look that screams healthy skin. It's that post-facial glow times a hundred. It is the complete antithesis of dry and winter-dulled skin, so why wouldn't we have hopped on the bandwagon?

The glass skin look is a product of the extensive Korean style skincare regimes that we've become a tad obsessed with of late. For many, the glass skin look is down to layers of lotions, potions, essences and serums, all of which have a glossy, transparent finish.

According to trend forecasters though, it seems the 'the glass skin effect' is set to undergo a bit of moderating. As many will know, achieving a glass skin finish often comes at the price of sporting a fairly wet and sticky face, not great if you're intent on walking down the street on a breezy day with strands of hair getting stuck to your serum. The next phases of glass skin in its trend evolution is cream skin. Talking to Stylecaster, Soko Glam cofounder Charlotte Cho explained that cream skin is both a product innovation and a skin finish. When it comes to the product, Charlotte explained it as 'as a fusion between toner and moisturizer that isn’t as heavy as the name implies, but milky in texture'. OK we're here for that, now what about the look?

The finish this product bestows is a subtle dewiness that we're likely to be able to emulate with light moisturisers and touches of serum here and there. Take a look back at the red carpets of 2019 and you'll notice it's actually one of the go-to looks for skin-savvy celebs such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who want to counter the intensity of the spotlights while also maintaining a bit of dewiness. Cream skin is a notch down from glass skin on the glow scale. You want to be able to see a touch of radiance on the tops of your cheeks, the centre of your forehead, the tip of your nose and your chin, but this should come via a serum or your moisturiser, not a super-reflective highlighter. Got it? Keep an eye out for this trend, it's set to be a biggie.
