While we wait for the best beauty advent calendars to launch this year, our team of beauty editors are here to tell you exactly what beauty advent calendars need to be on your radar this autumn. It may seem indulgent to swap chocolate for luxury cosmetics, but who are we to argue with a potential 25 days of our favourite beauty products? And this year, we can be sure that plenty of great options are sure to sell out fast once they're revealed.

May we begin by saying that, as beauty journalists and non-chocolate advent calendar enthusiasts, few people are better equipped to trawl through the countless options for beauty advent calendars than we are. We, like you, are after calendars that are not only packed to the brim with make-up, skincare and haircare from in-demand brands, including Huda Beauty, Fenty and Charlotte Tilbury, but also those that boast great value.

How we test the best beauty advent calendars

After decades of opening the best beauty advent calendars, our standards are particularly high, and we know what it takes to make a great one. To make it a fair test, we set three criteria to help us decide on the best beauty advent calendars worth investing in: product variety, price point and value for money. The latter being how much you are actually saving by buying an advent calendar as opposed to each product individually. We also review the best beauty advent calendars that appeal to a diversity of beauty buyers: for those skincare lovers, those obsessed with make-up or those who would rather spend on fragrance. Once we've considered this, we will implement a rating system, so look out for those beauty advent calendars that are Grazia-approved.

Liz Earle 24 Days of Liz Earle Advent CalendarLiz Earle
Price: $175 (worth £505.10)

www.boots.com

Unwrap 24 surprises as you embark on a journey of botanical beauty discovery. Featuring beloved icons and bestsellers, this coveted advent calendar refreshes both skin and sense. Perfect for skincare lovers and those looking to get introduced to the brand. Not only does it set up your skincare routine, but it also makes a very thoughtful gift. Tempted? Why not read our full review to find out more?

Rachael Martin, beauty director says: 'I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again- this calendar will sell out. As a beauty editor who has spent the past two years of reviewing the best advent calendars, I’ve come to recognise the ones that fly off the shelves, and this one absolutely qualifies. With contents worth £505.10, and retailing for just £175, the value for money is outstanding. Really and truly. Skincare fans will already be familiar with many of the hero products included, and it's fair to say there's enough in there to keep your bathroom cabinet well-stocked for months to come. And if you're disciplined enough to spread the love, splitting the products up and using as stocking fillers could be an excellent idea.'

Pros

  • Excellent value for money
  • Most are full-size
  • Contains the hero cleanse and polish

Cons

  • Will sell out swiftly

Cult Beauty Advent CalendarCult Beauty

Although Cult Beauty hasn't yet revealed the brands we can expect in this year's beauty advent calendar, they revealed that we can expect 20 full-sized products, all of which are worth over £1,100. It has to be said that Cult Beauty is one of our favourite places for a beauty shop-up, and we've already spotted that brands like Medik8, K18, Patrick Ta and Gisou are included in this year's calendar. Keep your eyes peeled as we continue to reveal what other products are hidden inside.

Rachael Martin, beauty director says: 'Ok. I've managed to get a sample of this one ahead of time, and (purely in the name of beauty journalism, of course) have opened every single drawer. Goodness me, you won't be disappointed with this one. While I don't want to spoil everything, allow me to wax lyrical about a few highlights. Day 1 starts off strong with a Summer Friday's cult classic face mist - the brand is well known for its ability to smooth and tone even the most parched of complexions. And Day 7 brings a mini hourglass mascara, one of my favourites for adding volume and length to my otherwise stubby lashes. I'll stop there. But know that there are no fillers in this advent calendar. Every single drawer contains something good. Really good. Be rest assured that this isn't one to miss.'

Pros

  • Worth over £1,100
  • 20 products are full-sized

Cons

  • Often sells out quickly

I was also thrilled to see brands like Tatcha, Laura Mercier, Augustinus Bader, and La Mer included. We can predict that this luxury calendar is definitely one to have on your radar.

Rachael Martin, beauty director says: 'The Harrods Beauty Advent Calendar has been known to sell out. And this year? It looks set to be no different. With luxury packaging and luxury contents to match, there’s a treat (or 32) to satisfy each and every beauty aficionado. There’s no denying there’s some beauty heavy weights in this one. There’s Augustinus Bader, 111Skin, Hourglass, La Mer, and Laura Mercier – and that’s only the beginning. The Pitta Brow Serum by Champo – just a few drops massaged into your scalp in the evenings is all it takes to see a noticeable difference in the condition and shine of your hair. It's one we can personally attest to.'
