In a recent interview with American VOGUE__, Bella Hadid got candid about her cosmetic procedures - having previously denied having any at all.

According to VOGUE, when Bella was only 14, she had a nose job (AKA rhinoplasty) - something she regrets. 'I wish I had kept the nose of my ancestors', said Hadid. 'I think I would've grown into it.'

It's fair to say, though, that Bella has long been subject to both public scrutiny and speculation when it comes to her choice of facial tweakments. Often placed side-by-side with photos of her younger self, Hadid has had her face dissected by armchair aestheticians and bored TikTokers alike. Whether it's jaw filler or 'fox eyes', they think she's had it all. In the very same interview, though, she claims this isn't the case.

'People think I fully f*cked with my face because of one picture of me as a teenager looking puffy. I'm pretty sure you don't look the same now as you did when you were 13, right? I have never used filler. Let’s just put an end to that. I have no issue with it, but it’s not for me.'

The key to her taut skin, then? 'Face tape,' says Hadid. 'The oldest trick in the book. I’ve had this impostor syndrome where people made me feel like I didn’t deserve any of this. People always have something to say, but what I have to say is, I’ve always been misunderstood in my industry and by the people around me.'

People have been quick to pull up previous interviews she's done - like one from 2019 InStyle - denying any cosmetic procedure at all: 'People think I got all this surgery or did this or that. And you know what? We can do a scan of my face, darling. I’m scared of putting fillers into my lips. I wouldn’t want to mess up my face.'

It's true: the dialogue surrounding cosmetic tweakments has changed in the last half decade. Cardi B opened up to Interview magazine in 2021 about her breast augmentation; Khloe K spoke candidly about her nose job; Linda Evangelista has been promoting the risks of it since her trauma with CoolSculpting. Is now simply the right time for Bella to have come clean?

Perhaps. Although fear of backlash is understandable; especially toward Bella's mother, Yolanda Hadid, for allowing her to access major surgery at such a young age. Reminding us once more that we are immortalised in the age of the internet, Twitter users were keen to pull up old clips of Yolanda on her days during the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (where she can be heard encouraging Gigi to diet, as the industry 'likes girls a tad on the skinny side').

Hats off to Bella for being so candid this time around. Dialogue and honest surrounding tweakments can never be a bad thing.
