It's fair to say that Dr. Barbara Sturm knows skin. A world renowned aesthetic doctor, Sturm's non-surgical, age-defying skin solutions are sought by everyone from Kim Kardashian West to Kate Moss. It stands to reason, therefore, that if anyone can invent a face mask which prevents breakouts – or 'maskne', as it has come to be known – it's her.

And that's exactly what she's done. Dr. Barbara Sturm's Nano-Silver Masks are washable, reusable face coverings made with anti-microbial, anti-friction, nano-silver infused fabric. But do these masks actually work?

Well, short of trialling them for at least a week to survey the results, it is true that silver is known to possess skin-healing properties. According to this 2007 study, for example, silver-containing wound dressings are a more effective barrier against infection than other products. Essentially, it can kill germs, thus acting as an antibacterial (NASA scientists even use colloidal silver to purify their water in outer space). Colloidal silver is also already used in many acne treatments.

Sturm's masks are available as a set of four or individually for £30. According to Cult Beauty, a stockist of the mask set, 'The brand chose to use Aerosilver™ fabric because of its soft feel and lightweight, breathable fabric that prevents glass fogging and avoids inflammation-inducing chafing against the skin. With a comfortable fit, each face mask features adjustable ear straps, an adjustable nose bridge and the Dr. Barbara Sturm logo to pledge your allegiance.'

That's right – according to Sturm, these masks won't just prevent maskne, they'll also stop your glasses from fogging up and, on top of that, the brand is donating 10% from the retail price of every mask sold to the World Health Organisation’s Covid-19 Solidarity Fund.

So, what do you think? Do they sound too good to be true or have you already added to basket?
