The rule goes for piercings of all kinds, even the ears which may seem the simplest of areas. What Is A Rook Piercing And How Is It Done?

A rook piercing is located in the uppermost ridge of your inner ear, located above the tragus in the antihelix. This piece of cartilage is where your earring will sit. To pierce the area a professional will use a hollow needle to go through the cartilage of your rook and insert the jewellery once the hole has been made. The placement of the piercing and earring will depend on the client as each person's ear anatomy is different. A good piercer will try to position jewellery to complement their client's anatomy and existing piercings.

Pain and Healing Time

The rook piercing is one of the most painful ear piercings out there because it passes through a thick double layer of cartilage, ouch! It means the heal time will be longer, too. But pain is subjective, so if you're a tough cookie the sensation may very bearable, the same can't be said for those with a low threshold.

As for healing, you can expect it to heal within six to twelve months.

Aftercare For Rook Piercings

Approach this the same way you would with any other piercing. The general rule of thumb is to clean it with a saline solution twice a day and making sure you're leaving it alone. This means, no poking and probing but other than that, be mindful of sleeping on it, putting pressure on the area and the ingredients in your haircare and skincare which may agitate the area.

Cost Of Rook Piercings

This will depend on where you are based in the UK, but generally you can expect it to cost more than your average earlobe piercing. Rook piercings will set you back around £45.
