At the beginning of each year, we're all taken over by the 'New Year, New You' vibe that's in the air. Whether you decide you're going to cut down on meat, start doing regular breathwork or meditation or simply refresh your wardrobe – we're a big fan of New Year's resolutions. Especially those that don't require too much effort on our part. Enter = skincare resolutions.

Yep, a great area to introduce New Year's resolutions is your skincare routine. Because whether you're stuck in a skincare rut or you're not seeing results from the products you're using – the new year is a great opportunity to refresh, restart and rejig your routine.

If you're not sure what your skin goals should be, let us provide you with some skinspiration. We asked skincare experts Megan Felton and Emma Coleman for their top skincare resolutions for 2023. Plus, some expert products to help you along the way…

7 top skincare resolutions to take into 2023

1/ Focus on hydration

"This year, I'm going to continue to tackle my dry skin through a combination of active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin. As well as natural ingredients including lactic acid, aloe leaf juice and citronellol," explains Coleman. "I strongly believe that dry skin needs the right combination of ingredients to keep it healthy and hydrated, and this particular combination works for me every winter."

2/ Don’t fall victim to TikTok trends

"With any ‘viral’ TikTok trend, it is so tempting to try and buy products to see what the hype is all about," says skincare expert and co-founder of Lionne, Megan Felton. "But it’s important to remember that everyone's skin is different and changing our routine often can be hard on our skin barrier. Viral products and TikTok trends also encourage over consumption of products that we just don’t need!"

3/ Bookend your day with skincare

“Consistency in skincare is key and most products will not give you results overnight," says Felton. "I recommend thinking of your skincare routine as the bookends of your day, how you wake up and how you wind down. This is a great time to check in with your skin and get in tune with what ingredients your skin is asking for that day.”

4/ Have monthly peels

"As I get older, the turnover of my skin cells is slowing down, making my skin look sluggish," says Coleman. "To combat this, I exfoliate twice weekly but now need a little more help. A monthly peel will be more effective in sloughing off the old, dead skin cells; leaving me with brighter, more youthful-looking skin underneath."

5/ Regular radio frequency treatments

"I’m also noticing that despite leading an active and healthy life, my face is starting to show signs of ageing," explains Coleman. "To combat this, I need to improve its elasticity to give my jawline more definition," says Coleman. "Regular radio frequency treatments will encourage new collagen production and elastin fibre growth; tightening up my skin and giving it a youthful glow."

6/ Body care = skincare

"I am so guilty of investing and taking great care of the skin on my face, but totally ignoring the rest of the skin on my body," says Felton. "This year I am leaning in to not just a facial skincare routine, but a body routine as well."

7/ Be realistic

"Similar to getting into a workout routine, start slow and build up your routine so that it is something you will actually stick to," advises Felton. "If you aren’t the type of person that is going to mask on a Sunday, don’t invest in the mask. If you aren’t going to use a NuFace, then don’t feel pressured to buy one!"
