It's Paris Hilton's Y2K revival era and we're all living in it. I met her this week. I travelled to LA with Klarna to attend their VIP launch party for their House of Y2K, a compact, candy floss pink haven of noughties nostalgia, smack bang in the middle of Melrose Avenue. Guests were surrounded by Paris before she even arrived. The limited-edition tracksuit she designed in collaboration with Klarna (it's available to shop exclusively on the Klarna app) stood front and centre, an emerald green velour affair dripping with bling. Other mannequins served up some of her most iconic Simple Life coords, and shelves were full to brimming with accessories from her Y2K archives - think Hello Kitty purses, Swarovski sunglasses and bedazzled phone handsets.
A flurry of camera flashes and screams heralded Paris's arrival. The throng of VIP guests parted as the 41-year-old businesswoman - who welcomed her son Phoenix Barron with husband Carter Reum in January - sashayed over to the photo wall where she posed up a storm for the appreciative wall of photographers and TikTok-ing guests. Her moves were a masterclass in crowd-pleasing, no one does it quite like her. Her Nicole & Felicia mini dress - a slip inspired by the Julian Macdonald chain mail dress she wore on her 21st birthday - glittered under the camera flashes, and her new fringe earned the approval of Kris Jenner, who, on joining Paris in front of the Klarna signage mouthed, 'nice bangs!'.
Watch: The Y2K Makeover In All Its Glory
'I am so excited to be here tonight to officially open the House of Y2K,' said Paris, 'it's been so much fun working with Klarna on this event and the "That's Smooth" campaign. I've loved revisiting the 2000s and it's so cool to see some of my favourite things from that time on display here, explore the different spaces and experience how shopping has changed over the last two decades thanks to tech like Klarna. Slive it up tonight!'
Suitably inspired, I returned the very next day for a Y2K makeover. I sat in front of a Hollywood-style light bulb framed mirror while renowned LA beauty pros Steven Tabimba (on make-up) and Eduardo Ponce (on hair) got to work. We were going for Y2K lite - a flavour of the noughties. Eduardo teased my hair into long, Hilton-worthy waves, high on shine and big on volume, while Steven set about contouring up a storm. He layered on candy pink blush, graphic liner, iridescent gloss and a frosting of glitter. The result? Glam so good I took it out for a spin on Rodeo Drive.
