It wasn't all about the dresses, the wins, the speeches and Timothée Chalamet: for the beauty mavens among us, the Oscars is always a visual feast, providing us with enough hair and make-up inspiration to take us through until... next year's awards show.
It's no surprise that, on the biggest night in any A-lister's calendar, many stars took beauty inspiration from Hollywood's golden age, opting for a modern take on classic glamour: burnished bronze eyeshadow, subtle contouring, statement red lips and 'expensive' skin (you know what we mean) dominated the make-up game, complemented by perfectly executed loose waves, subtle up-dos and salon-fresh colour.
That's not to say, though, that it was a risk-free red carpet. Below are some of our favourite looks from the night...
Oscars 2018 Best Beauty - Grazia
Allison Williams
With her hair in sleek '40s waves with a deep side parting and her make-up kept fresh and mimimal, *Get Out *star Allison Williams' Oscar look is a perfect example of old-fashioned Hollywood glamour re-imagined for 2018.
Eiza Gonzalez
For your consideration: our latest beauty muse, *Baby Driver *star Eiza Gonzalez, whose Oscar look has us desperately needing to track down the exact tomatoey shade of red lipstick she's used for her first Academy Awards appearance. Extra points for the impeccably sculpted brows, too.
Zendaya
Zendaya manages to make a simple topknot look effortless (when let's face it, it's anything but); we also love her fresh twist on the smokey eye.
Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence stuck to her tried and tested awards season formula: bold red lips and a bronzed smokey eye, with smudged out liner and beachy waves for a more laid-back look.
Emma Stone
2017's Best Actress Emma Stone brings a similarly winning look to this year's red carpet, pairing sleek shoulder-length hair with pink tones on the eyelids and lips (perfectly complementing her bold sash).
Danai Gurira
Let's just take a moment to appreciate *Black Panther *star Danai Gurira's stunning red carpet look. And another one. And another one.
Gal Gadot
Gal Gadot once again proves why she's a real life Wonder Woman, with a classic red lip, timeless up-do and the sort of radiance that comes with being the highest grossing female superhero.
Margot Robbie
Newly crowned Chanel ambassador Margot Robbie doesn't exactly need to do much to stand out on the red carpet, which is probably why she's kept things commendably simple with her subtly waved bob and peach lipstick.
Kelly Marie Tran
No one is more excited to be at the Oscars than *Star Wars *breakout star Kelly Marie Tran. Top marks for the intricately plaited up-do (which wouldn't look out of place in the *Star Wars *universe, as it happens) and perfect brows.
