When Mario Dedivanovic announces a new product, you best bet the masses listen. Otherwise known as Makeup by Mario (the name of his eponymous beauty brand) it's fair to say the make-up artist is a bone fide beauty icon - he boasts an impressive roster of A-List clients, Kim Kardashian being one. Since make-up by Mario launched stateside in 2020, the brand has gone from strength the strength, launching one viral beauty product after another. Now he's back with his latest launch, which, fans are claiming 'is his best yet.' Enter the Makeup By Mario SoftSculpt Bronzing & Shaping Serum, £39

What does the Makeup By Mario SoftSculpt Bronzing & Shaping Serum do?

Described by the brand as 'Mario's softest sculpt yet,' the Mario SoftSculpt Bronzing and Shaping Serum is, essentially, what its name would suggest - a mesh between a bronzer and a serum. The formula is lightweight and sheer, and can be applied over make-up or directly to bare skin while the incorporation of hyaluronic acid and vitamin E work to hydrate and soothe - meaning healthier looking skin in the long run too. It's available in 7 hues.

How to apply the Makeup By Mario SoftSculpt Bronzing & Shaping Serum

After a subtle, sun-kissed glow? Mario recommends using the pump to apply the serum all over the face before using a brush and blending through. For a more targeted, precise finish the make-up artist suggests using the spongey wand applicator direct to 'shape and enhance' your features. Look to places where the sun would naturally hit, like the bridge of the nose, across the cheeks and the top of the forehead.

Customer review: 'Wow!! I was really hesitant to buy it because who really needs another bronzer but I was very surprised with how good it is. It’s SO SO natural and not orange at all. Everyone was telling me I look so tan. Love it!!'

Pros

  • Interchangeable pump and wand
  • Only a small amount needed

Cons

  • Some reviewers describe it as 'too sheer.'

Our verdict:

Beauty editor Rachael Martin says: 'If you're after a healthy-looking, soft blurred effect then the Makeup By Mario SoftSculpt Bronzing & Shaping Serum could be just the ticket. I've applied it on both my bare complexion and over the top of make-up and find it works beautifully both ways. This serum drapes my skin in a sheer, radiant warmth that looks entirely natural - it's a more subtle take on a traditional cream bronzer, in my opinion. In terms of texture I'd describe it as silky, but not sticky - it feels undetectable when blended in. I would reiterate the importance of using just the smallest amount though. Although it is sheer, the pigment builds quickly, so less is more here for the most natural, sun-kissed finish.'
