By now, you’re probably well aware of the breaking news that Keeping Up With The Kardashians is set to end early next year. And regardless of whether you love them or loathe them - there’s no denying the sheer volume of beauty inspiration and trends that have emerged as a result of the show over the past 14 years. From Kim’s killer contouring to Kylie’s lip kits and myriad hair colour changes in-between – there’s not a single beauty look that hasn’t gained stratospheric traction after appearing on the show.
Take Kim’s vampire facial in an episode of 'Kim and Kourtney take Miami,' for example. Would we have been so inclined to inject our own blood into our skin had she not raved about the results? And how about bronzer? Every Kardashian and Jenner clan has made a convincing case for using a golden, bronze powder to sculpt and define their facial features, which, as a result, has sent Instagram feeds around the glob into an overdrive of ‘Instaglam’ #selfies. Then there’s the hair colour chameleon Kylie, whose trialed every single hair colour hue going and inspired many of us to give candy pink a whirl.
While many trends have stuck around (perfectly groomed arches, glow-y skin and razor-sharp bobs) others have received a lot of backlash (lip-fillers being one) and some have just faded into the background (Kendall’s OTT smoked-out eye, for instance). But overall, it’s safe to say that the sisters have shaken up the beauty industry over the years, proving their endless power to influence others - something which they’ve all masterfully monetised on. Launching new beauty brand after new beauty brand, we’ve seen the launch of KKW Beauty from Kim with her sell-out body foundation, Kylie’s infamous Lip Kits, Kendall who co-created an oral beauty line (and is set to launch her own line soon), and finally, Kourtney’s wellness brand Poosh.
To take a trip down memory lane and recall the major beauty moments from all 19 series, we’ve cherry-picked our favourite beauty lessons from Keeping Up With The Kardashians including the good, the bad and the (ever so slightly) ugly (Vampire facial, we're looking at you)…
Keeping Up With The Kardashians Beauty Lessons
1. Contour, contour, contour...
Starting with the most obvious - where would we be without contouring? Seriously, though. The Kardashians introduced us to the almighty power of bronzer back in Season 1 where Khloe, Kim and Kourtney all carved out their cheekbones and tapered their noses with golden, matte powder. And while it's evolved over the years to become more subtle and seamless, the trend still takes our social media feeds by storm on the daily.
2. Maintain your brow game
We're putting it down to good genes, but the Kardashians are renowned for their perfectly groomed, full arches that always look on point. Even since the start, the sisters have had incredible brows - never succumbing to the skinny brow trend - and we thank you for that.
3. Yes, you CAN do blue hair
As proven by Kylie Jenner, teal tones most definitely do work. Perhaps the most adventurous (and transformed) of the sisters, Kylie has experimented with almost every hair hue going and has influenced many of us to take the plunge. Just remember to up your haircare ante to nourish those lengths in-between dye jobs.
4. Beauty is pain (proceed with caution)
How could we forget the moment when Kim introduced us to 'the vampire facial' on an episode of Kourtney & Kim Take Miami. Taking her best friend Jonathan Cheban for moral support, Kim said 'I love trying anything that makes you look and feel youthful.' The painful treatment (otherwise known as PRP) involves injecting the patients' platelet-rich plasma protein back into their face to boost radiance and plump up the skin. Since, Kim has reportedly said she regrets the treatment - and that's enough to put us off, too.
5. Blondes have more fun
Every single member of the Kardashian/Jenner clan has experimented with blonde hair at some point over the 19 seasons. From ash blonde bobs (a la Kylie) to mermaid white waves (as seen on Kim) and balayage blonde highlights (Khloe), the crew make a convincing case for the versatility and wearability of blonde hair.
6. Go easy on the eyeliner
Remember Kendall's first modelling gig that aired on the show back in 2011? 15 year-old Kendall at the time landed her first shoot for designer Sherri Hill where her OTT eye make-up did all of the talking. Her modelling career has since soared while the heavy kohl has been left behind in favour of a more natural, paired-back look.
7. Blunt bobs work on every face shape
Whether it's a wig or their natural hair, we're obsessed with the blunt chic bobs that have recently been adopted by the Kardashian/Jenner sisters. The trick? Go for a centre parting and curl in the hair ever so slightly at the ends to feign the appearance of thicker, healthier hair.
8. Invest in your skincare
Occasionally, we've seen the Kardashians give their skin a break from the full-coverage, long-lasting make-up to treat it to a face mask. Allow yourself some me-time and follow suit - even if it's mid-way through a video call like Kim.
9. Sky-high ponytails can cause damage
During season 17 Kourtney showed Kim a bald spot that had formed on the top of her head. 'Kourtney, you have a really big spot on the top of your head, Kim said. 'Look down, Kourtney. Oh my God, I'm afraid for your life. Have you seen that?' Kourtney replied to say that she swears it's from her ponytail. Note to self, give your hair a break from tight, pulled back 'dos.
10. Eyeshadow works day and night
How do their smoked-out lids always look so pristine without product fall out? According to their make-up artist, Mario Dedivanovic, the trick is to 'bake' (the technique of packing on translucent powder under the eyes to set your make-up) while applying the shadow. Then, when you sweep away the translucent powder, you take any shadow fallout with you. Clever!
