Katherine Langford endeared herself to us las Hannah in Netflix smash hit 13 Reasons Why. Now, instead of captivating us with her heart-wrenching performance on screen, she's wowing us with her make-up prowess.
The American Music Awardsalways attracts the bold and beautiful when it comes to make-up and fashion, but Katherine landed herself a step above the rest with her ballsy take on a pink eye shadow look. In general, us beauty buffs urge caution with such a shade. The risk is huge. One shade mismatch and you can look like you're sporting a painful bout of conjunctivitis rather than flaunting a new trend. Indeed, it is pink, bloodshot tones of tired eyes that we're always eager to cover up with a sweep or two of YSL's Touche Eclat. Sweeping on a blush shade deliberately seems counter productive – but boy did Katherine make it work.
The trick lies in the deep and bright shade. The bold fuchsia shade almost verged on a deeper magenta where it was built up. The real skill of her makeup artist is evident. There is nothing else in her makeup look that competes with the statement eye shadow: no liner, no bright lipstick, no wash of bronze. Her eye shadow did the talking, and that gorgeous dewy finish to Katherine's skin offset it beautifully.
So how can we wear the look ourselves? Pick your colour and stick to it, don't mix it with others or shade in depth. Build it up to a flat block colour over the lid and diffuse out seamlessly up towards the arch of your brow and the outer corners of your eye, not forgetting to take it across your lower lash line too, much like you would do when creating a smoky eye.
