Now, I can't live without it.

I’m always on a mission to level up my makeup routine. So, if there’s a product or brand making waves, chances are I’ve tried it already – be it a new K Beauty launch or one of the best foundations. That's what I thought, at least. Somehow, Danessa Myricks had completely flown under my radar and, once I realised how late I was to the game, I was embarrassed. With over a million Instagram followers, Myricks is a powerhouse in the beauty industry, known for her innovative, multifunctional products that cater to all skin tones and types. A quick scroll through her feed proves she’s mastered the art of complexion-perfecting formulas.

One of her most talked-about creations? The Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder. This week alone, it became a breakout search term on Google, took over TikTok beauty feeds, and even made an appearance on Melissa’s Wardrobe’s Instagram story.. One TikTok user summed up the obsession perfectly: ‘The Danessa Myricks Blurring Balm Powder is the best makeup product I’ve come across in the past 20 years. And that says a lot-I have 10k points at Sephora.’ At last count, that comment had 40,000 likes and, considering how quickly the Blurring Balm sells out, it’s safe to say people are hooked. Naturally, I had to see for myself. I put it to the test - here’s what happened.

What does the Danessa Myricks Blurring Balm do?

  • To highlight & contour: Use a tinted shade two shades lighter to highlight or two shades darker to sculpt.

  • As a foundation or skin tint: Use a tinted shade onto the skin with a dense brush for sheer coverage (for that ‘your skin but better’ look) or build it up for full coverage.

  • As a primer: This is how most people - including me -use it. I picked up shade 9, applied it all over my face (focusing on my oily T-zone and nose), and then layered with a pump of the NARS Light Reflecting Foundation on top.

Stock flies so be quick, I wear shade 9.

Customer review: ‘I kept putting this in my cart, removing it, and adding it back in for months because I could not tell what this was or how to use it. I accidentally caught a youtube makeup artist talking about it and realised I am supposed to use it as a foundation, I own several very good foundations and certainly did not require another one but purchased it anyway during the sale. I LOVE this product, I mean LOVE IT, and have to force myself to use my other foundations, as this product feels like nothing on once it self sets and gives a light blur coverage. It is buildable for more make-upy days and also low-key enough for errands days. A truly unique and stellar product, and I will always repurchase it. For reference, I have combination 52 year old skin, and it does not sit, break, cling to dry skin, or slip in the T-zone. Think your skin but better(an often used marketing term that I have never seen achieved until this product).’

Pros

  • Blurring effect – Creates a soft-focus, filtered look by minimizing pores and smoothing texture.
  • Oil control – Keeps shine at bay, making it perfect for oily and combination skin.
  • Long-wearing – Makeup stays fresh for hours without touch-ups.
  • Multi-use formula – Can be used as a primer, foundation, skin tint, or contour/highlight.
  • Adjustable shades – The flexible shade range means many people can wear more than one shade.
  • Great for layering – Works well under foundation or on its own for a natural finish.

Cons

  • Hard to find stock.
  • Slight learning curve – may take some trial and error to apply correctly and find what works for you.

How to use the Danessa Myricks Blurring Balm?

The Blurring Balm Powder comes with a spatula to help you scoop out the perfect amount. Upon application, it gives instant results - minimising pores, controlling oil, and melting into the skin with a translucent, balm-like texture. Don’t be alarmed that it looks really shiny at first. Danessa Myricks herself has said the shades are ‘super forgiving’, meaning many people can wear more than one shade. So, don’t be afraid to experiment - the formula is incredibly easy to work with.

Final verdict

If you have oily skin, you and this product need to be acquainted. Throughout the day, my make-up did not budge, and I didn’t even need to touch up. I received so many compliments on how flawless my base looked - it’s honestly like having a built-in blur filter on your face. I don't even think the pictures do it justice.  This product has genuinely transformed my make-up routine, and I can’t wait to wear it in the summer. If I had to recommend one beauty product wholeheartedly, this would be it. And no, I don’t have stocks or shares in the company - but I wish I did!
