At this point, Clinique’s Black Honey needs little introduction but, in case you’re in need of a quick refresher: it first launched in the 1970s as one of the first lipstick-balm hybrids and has since become nothing short of iconic. Its universally flattering plummy pigment has secured its place as a beauty staple, beloved across generations the world over. With its ability to suit virtually every skin tone (yes, really) it’s hardly surprising that Black Honey dupes tend to sell out almost as quickly as they appear. Over the years, Clinique has released various reinterpretations of the cult classic. From limited edition lip oils to the introduction of Pink Honey- a candy-toned pink version of the original- the brand has continued to reimagine Black Honey thanks to its sell out success. Now, there’s a new addition to the Black Honey family: Nude Honey. Offering a fresh twist on the original, this latest launch promises the same balm-like texture and customisable colour payoff, but with a more neutral, everyday appeal. Sitting somewhere between a soft brown and a rose-toned nude, it’s designed to deliver that effortless ‘your lips but better’ effect. Here’s everything you need to know about Clinique’s latest must-have shade.

Our Verdict

Rachael Martin, beauty director says:
'I'm already a devotee to the iconic Black Honey- its rich, deeper tones strike the perfect balance between subtle and sophisticated. While I usually gravitate towards nude shades (I'm a Pillow Talk loyalist) there’s something undeniably flattering and grown-up about Black Honey, especially for evening wear. It offers that touch of depth without feeling too bold, making it effortlessly chic. On the other hand, Pink Honey didn’t quite work for me. It was simply too sheer for my lips, feeling more like a tinted balm than a true hit of colour. It lacked the pigment I look for in an everyday lipstick, especially when I want a shade that can carry me through the day. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard that Clinique were launching a new shade designed to sit perfectly between the two- Nude Honey. It’s quickly become a staple in my everyday make-up bag. The shade is understated enough to wear to the office, yet pigmented enough to transition seamlessly into the evening. It strikes that elusive balance between a soft brown and a rose-toned pink, offering a warm, flattering hue that still feels natural. What truly sets Nude Honey apart is its clever blend of warm and cool pigments. These adapt to your natural lip tone to create a shade that’s uniquely yours- expect a flattering colour for all skin tones. The texture is another standout feature for me - it’s balm-like and incredibly comfortable to wear, offering just the right amount of hydration to keep chapped lips at bay. It’s safe to say that Nude Honey has earned its place as a new favourite in my collection- it's effortless, elegant, and endlessly wearable. My only gripe? This one needs consistent reapplication to ensure it sits pretty all day. But, in my opinion, this is a small price to pay for such a beautiful finish.'
