From lengthening to curling, there are myriad mascara options out there to satisfy every desired finish. If your end goal is lots of length and volume with zero risk of smudging, turn your attention to the new crop of tubing mascaras. Unlike traditional mascaras that coat the lashes in pigment, tubing mascaras contain micro-fibres (or polymers) that wrap around your lashes to create a ‘tube’ of pigment. Once set, these liquid tubes don’t budge or smudge.

What are the benefits of tubing mascaras?

‘Regular mascara, although it can be layered for volume, tends to run and flake throughout the day,’ says Nick Lujan, Director of Artistry & Education and Global MUA at Kevyn Aucoin, ‘whereas tubing mascara is typically long-wearing, stays put and can easily build volume.’

The major bonus of a tubing mascara (and the reason why we’re completely hooked) is the removal process. Rather than rubbing and tugging the mascara off with lots of micellar water, for a tubing mascara all you need is warm water to break down the formula allowing it to slide off in clumps. ‘This is one of the best benefits of the mascara,’ says Nick, ‘no more of that morning after smoky eye look.’

Plus, because they're so simple to remove, tubing mascaras are often a great option for those with sensitive eyes.
