Let's talk changing up your make-up look to suit a new hair colour. Katie Jane Hughes is a world-renowned make-up artist, whose expertise in the glowing skin, eyeliner flick and nude lip department have seen her amass an hefty social media following (that's 522k followers on Instagram and counting). She was also famed for her fiery copper hair colour until, this year, she changed things up with an icy take on brunette. Her followers went wild and so did we. What brought on the big revamp? 'Honestly it was a mix of not being able to get my hair done throughout quarantine and being ready for something new.' With a new colour came a switch-up in make-up. 'I was going from red to brunette which made make-up choices simpler, I find having red hair can determine things like what red lip I should wear.'
Evidently there's a lot to consider in terms of make-up when going for a total hair colour transformation and it Katie is the real authority on the subject. She was even hair colour maestro Josh Wood's go-to make-up artist and model when it came to shooting his brand new Josh Wood Colour Gloss RED range.

They're a semi-permanent colour collection that seriously ups the ante in terms of colour pay-off and condition. With Katie's new darker hair colour she could have tried them out over time and shown off the different tones they would have afforded her brunette hair, but both Josh Wood and Katie wanted to go the extra mile and show these gloss shades off to the max. The answer? A bit of virtual hair colouring. Katie Jane Hughes created a different make-up look to complement each different shade in the range (Berry Brunette, Cherry, Copper and Rose Brunette) and her hair was altered in post-production to reflect - the results? A masterclass in pairing your make-up with a new shade of hair colour. Take a look for yourselves:

Josh Wood Colour Gloss in Copper Gold, £19
Katie amplifies the copper tones of her hair here with a yellow gold flash of eyeshadow at the inner corners of her eyes, a sweep of bronzer across the tops of her cheekbones and a glossy nude lip.
Josh Wood Colour Gloss in Cherry, £19
Glossy dusky pink lids are the order of the day for this cherry shade of hair colour. Katie also clashes colours by wearing a Merlot shade of matte lipstick. This sets off the pink undertones of her virtual hair colour no end.
Josh Wood Colour Berry Brunette, £19
This blackberry stain shade of hair colour evidently called for an eye-catching dose of graphic liner, a nude lip and a flush of russet-toned blush.
Josh Wood Colour Rose Brunette, £19
The deep tones of this hair colour take centre stage as Katie pairs it with dusky wine tones on the eyes, glowing skin and a glossy nude lip that errs on the mauve side of pink.

Platinum Blonde - 'Honestly, I think people with platinum blonde hair look insane with a red lip. If I had platinum blonde hair I would wear one every day.'
Brunette - 'Going brunette again made me feel a little pale so I have definitely been upping my bronzer usage!'
Copper - 'When it comes to copper hair I just love going for gold, bronze and rich tones. Warm cosy colours look insane.'
Fiery Red - 'A fiery red is so bold, so anything goes, from equally bold make-up to a dash of concealer and emphasis on the brows.'
So those are the make-up looks Katie Jane Hughes would go for, but the make-up artist is quick to say 'you do you'. 'I would say to play and experiment! Only by doing so will you find out what you like the most. If you don't like a make-up look, you know where your soap is! Make-up isn't permanent, just have fun with it.' We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
