Eyelash curlers are the unsung heroes of our make-up bags. They're the one product that can make a huge difference in a matter of seconds – lifting and enhancing our lashes, making eyes look wider and much more awake, too. You will never find a make-up kit backstage without a pair lurking nearby. And more often than not, the pros will forgo mascara in favour of a flattering curve, teased out with eyelash curlers.

The trick? According to make-up legend, Charlotte Tilbury you should always use eyelash curlers on clean, bare lashes - so no mascara. Next, keep your eyes open before placing the curlers at the root of the lashes making sure your top lashes fit between the edges. Gently clamp the curlers down, hold for five seconds and voila - lashes are curled, lifted and voluminous.

Another top tip for curling lashes, often seen backstage, is to move the curlers slowly up the lashes, from root to tip, squeezing gently and releasing as you go for added drama.
