All hail The Ordinary: purveyor of brilliant skincare, at brilliantly accessible prices. Their efficacious formulas, chock full of active ingredients, taught the skincare industry an important lesson: great products needn't cost the Earth.

Consumers became savvier after their arrival. Ingredients list were examined forensically: skincare had gotten a high-tech, and consumers kept up. It's how YouTube skinfluencers like Hyram and James Walsh hit the big-time as virtual encyclopaedias, decoding formulas and ingredients list through pixels, one video at a time.

And an encyclopaedia we needed, because for all the great things The Ordinary have delivered, accessibly named products is not one. Their latest venture into haircare follows suit: The Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair is a mouthful, but it does have an impressive ingredients list to back it up.

Reviews are glowing, too. Keen to get the scoop? Read on for our - and TikTok's - verdict.

What is The Ordinary's newest hair product, and what does it do?

As we've established, it's their Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density. It comes in the brand's signature glass bottle with a pipette, which actually makes for pretty useful application of scalp products.

The aim? To restore hair density and give the illusion of fuller, thicker, healthier hair. It's full of reassuringly technical ingredients (some of which might sound familiar - peptides and caffeine - others, not so much) to create the optimum environment on the scalp for hair growth. The emollient base actually penetrates the scalp to treat the hair follicle deep, deep down.

How is the texture, and how do I use it?

It's lightweight. It works well for finer hair, too. It's designed to be applied directly to a clean, dry scalp, and massaged in. It's a leave-in treatment, so don't wash it out. You may prefer to apply it at bedtime, to give the product ample time to absorb.

Sounds great. Does it actually work?

We get the skepticism. Too many haircare products that promote growth deliver a lot of promise, but not a lot of results. It felt different this time around, though: it was coming from The Ordinary - a brand we trust.

As with all hair growth products, it takes time to see results. Don't expect markedly different hair over night. Over time, though, most will find their hair does look more plentiful - especially around the sides and hairline. Hair does start to appear marginally thicker. And for such an accessible price point compared to other hair growth products on the market, we'll take it.

It's worth noting that it is normal to lose a small amount of hair each day. Sometimes, though, it can be indicative of a medical condition: illness, stress, iron deficiency or weight loss. See a GP, or a trichologist, if you're especially concerned.
