With the exciting and unexpected news that Sex and the City will be returning to our screens in late spring, we thought it highly appropriate to take a moment to reminisce on all of the major hair moments of one Miss Carrie Bradshaw. Played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Carrie is first and foremost idolised for her highly coveted wardrobe and obsession for footwear. Yet the Newyorker also has a very versatile repertoire of hair styles on-screen.
From her signature curls to her short and curly bob that made a debut in Season 4, we take a look back at Carrie Bradshaw’s most iconic hair styles from Sex and the City. Plus, Colourist, Giuseppe Stelitano and Senior Director, Tiziana Di Marcelli at Trevor Sorbie have shared their top tips and tricks so you can recreate the looks at home.
'Since the late 90’s, Carrie has been a huge style inspiration for me and everyone around the world,' says Stelitano. 'Looking back, I've pulled together six of her most iconic Carrie Bradshaw hair moments to celebrate her return, and how you can create them in your own home during lockdown.'
Carrie Bradshaw Iconic Hair Styles
The Messy Curl
'If you don't have naturally curly hair and you want to achieve this look, apply L'Oréal Professionnel TECNI.ART Pli, £16.50, on dry and clean hair and blast dry. Then start taking sections of hair from the back of your head, and using a Curling Tong wrap each section around the barrel of the tong and repeat this until you reach the top of the hair. It's important to take small sections if you want to get the iconic Bradshaw curls. Let the curls cool before applying a texturizing spray and then shake your head upside down for great volume.'
Straight & Sleek
'To avoid the "poker straight look", take each section and blow-dry from the root through the ends using a big round bristle brush. Keep the nozzle close to the hair all the way down, curving the ends into the brush to get that natural next day hair look.'
Low Side Ponytail
'Blow dry the hair and then fix a ponytail with an elastic to one side. For a polished effect, brush the ponytail with a flat bristle brush before applying L'Oréal Professionnel TECNI.ART Ring Light, £16.10, for added shine.'
Curly Bob
The secret to those bouncy waves? 'Use an electric tong to recreate the waves, and to achieve that messy look, spray a bit of texturising product to give the hair more texture.'
Oversized Bun
'Pull all the hair up into a high ponytail and don't worry if it's not tidy, as Carrie always says - "I can never be the woman with the perfect hair, who can wear white and not spill on it", then begin wrapping the hair around the ponytail and secure it with some hair pins.'
Glossy Waves
'Dry the hair with a big round brush, then use an electric tong to achieve those big waves and leave the curls to cool down before applying L'Oréal Professionnel TECNI.ART Fix Anti Frizz, £13.20. Then shake out the curls to achieve those more relaxed waves.'
