First Minister Nicola Sturgeon previously announced that hairdressers were allowed to reopen in Scotland from the 5th April, three days after the 'stay at home' lockdown order was lifted. This means that people are now allowed to leave home more often (and visit their local hair stylist) but they have to stay inside their own local authority area until the 26th April, when the travel ban is lifted in Scotland.

Since July last year, during the time they were allowed to reopen, hairdressers and beauty salons have taken every single possible measure to operate in a safe, socially-distanced manner. As hairdressers reopened after lockdown, under the tiered system, they once again adopted those COVID-19 secure measures that kept both staff and clients safe and it will be a similar story now.

For hairdressers, all stylists must wear face masks and visors, while chairs are spaced out and the number of appointments limited. Customers are no longer able to just walk-in – you must book an appointment first and sanitisation is essential on entering and leaving the salon. As per the strict rules pre lockdown if you're reported as not wearing a mask where you should be you could be fined a minimum of £200.

Hairdressers also need to display the official NHS QR code posters from the new NHS contact tracing app. People will be notified through the app if their phone detects they were near someone later found to have COVID-19 and they need to self-isolate.
