Molly-Mae Hague is famous for a number of reasons. Yes, many would count her stint on Love Island as the most obvious one. Already a widely-followed YouTuber Molly-Mae's star status rocketed when she stepped into Love Island's Season 5 villa and walked away as runners-up with her now boyfriend Tommy Fury. But ask any number of her 5.3 million Instagram followers why they look out for her posts in their feed and they're more likely to tell you they're hooked on her style, her beauty tips, and more often than not, her hair looks. Yes Molly-Mae herself admits that her (sometimes) long, blonde lengths are a huge draw for her followers. 'A lot of my followers follow me for my hair styles and tips,' Molly-Mae tells Grazia. And who can blame them? Molly-Mae offers up a seemingly endless stream of hair revamps weekly. She somehow manages to flit from long and luscious mermaid waves, to a bouncy high ponytail (more on that later) to a sleek shoulder-length bob with ease. We caught up with Molly-Mae to talk hair extension tips, desert island hair products and THE trick behind her signature chunky plait...

On her go-to haircare routine

'I went short because I wanted to try something a bit different. My followers are very used to my long, very blonde hair but I wanted to change it up. I love to use a purple shampoo to maintain my blonde. I use the Beauty Works Anti-Yellow Shampoo, £13.99, it's like my holy grail, desert island hair product. I need that shampoo. It's amazing it just knocks out all the brassy tones from my hair, I swear by it. I use a mask about once a week too to keep my hair extra glossy and in good condition. I normally finish things off with an argan oil serum to lock in loads of moisture. My hair can get quite dry sometimes because I do bleach it a lot to keep it super blonde, I'm naturally quite dark brunette. I'm really on it with my hair care to keep it in good condition.'

On her top hair extension tips

'So when it comes to clip-in hair extensions it's taken me quite a while to master them. It's quite tricky, when doing your own hair, to get the placement right. With clip-in hair extensions it all comes down to practice. I've tried so many other types of hair extensions too. I've tried tapes and I've tried bonds. For me bond extensions are amazing because I love to have my hair in a bun a lot and in a high ponytail. They're very discreet and never visible. That's important to me because with doing lots of shoot for work I'm constantly wearing my hair in different styles and having hair extensions that are easily seen is just a no-go. As for caring for your hair extensions you can you can wash extensions in exactly the same way as you wash your normal hair. You can wash your clip-in extensions in the bath. Essentially keep washing them regularly and remember to apply hair masks to them too to help boost their condition.'

On styling the perfect high ponytail

'I was once on a Beauty Works shoot getting my hair styled into a super high ponytail and I learned that if you add an extra hair band on top of the first one it gives you more height and that's what makes your ponytail look really bouncy. All you have to do is wrap your own hair around the hair ties and secure with a grip to hide it and you're done. That's my top tip for getting a really voluminous high ponytail. My other tip is keeping a hairbrush handy all the time. I've always got hair rash in my bag. I can never have a bag that's not just too small to hold a hairbrush because it comes with me everywhere. Brushing through your ponytail keeps it looking polished. I do love a ponytail.'

On styling her signature chunky plait

'I pull my natural hair into a ponytail and then I attach 24 inch ponytail from Beauty Works. I blend my natural ponytail into the ponytail extension and then I plait everything together. It's not the easiest job! Especially when I'm at home at Tommy isn't the best at helping with this sort of thing! I make sure everything looks alright from the back and then I'm done. I love using the Beauty Works ponytails like that. They allow me to really mix my looks up and add volume when and where I need.'
