Shiny, soft, supple strands? Not always easy. Those devoted to bleaching, straightening or even just rough brushing will know only too well the struggle. But that's where hair glosses come in - the secret weapon to achieving that rich, glossy, salon-worthy shine. A good hair gloss should boost lustre, increase colour vibrancy and minimise frizz, making it an ideal option for between salon appointments - consider it a top coat for your hair. And bonus points, as they're suitable for all hair colours and textures.

One, in particular has been going viral on TikTok thanks to it's reported ability to impart 'mirror like shine' on even the most damaged of hair. Enter the Living Proof Perfect Hair Day High Shine Gloss, £30. Consider us intrigued...

What is the Living Proof Perfect Hair Day High Shine Gloss?

An in-shower treatment that promises reflective shine post-wash. Living Proof say it's 'an in-shower clear gloss that instantly delivers brilliant shine, smoothness and vibrancy with lasting results.'

Our review:

Acting beauty director Cassie Steer says: 'Shine is not a word usually synonymous with my hair thanks to a 10 year bleach habit and I'd made peace with that. But my interest was piqued when the new Living Proof Gloss landed in my inbox. Essentially the at-home version of the gloss treatments you get in-salon but at a fraction of the price and no silicone (I love the effect of silicone for a quick fix but not the build-up that comes with it). And the verdict? Whilst I still wouldn't say my hair looks noticeably 'shiny', it definitely has a bit more of a reflective quality to it (no mean feat on my frazzled locks) and looks healthier. In other words it's a keeper.'

Glossy, gorgeous hair in five minutes? It would seem so.

Beauty editor Rachael Martin says: 'As a beauty journalist it's terrible to admit, but I usually can't be bothered with the hassle of an in-shower treatment. I want to shampoo, condition and be gone. That said, this one may just have swayed me. I had my first encounter with it at the brand's press day where it was professionally applied by the talented team at Hersheson's. The results were glorious - but was the finishing shine (almost glowing, just FYI) merely due to the professional blow dry? Since trying it at home, I'm thrilled to say I'm still rather impressed. I apply a small amount through my lengths and ends after shampooing and conditioning and comb it through gently. And then there's the five minutes of waiting - which, I have to admit, still kills me. But if there was ever an excuse to shave my legs? This is it. Immediately after rinsing my hair feels slippery and silky - without any residual tackiness. It's after blowdrying that the added shine really becomes apparent, though. Those with highlights will know the struggle to add luminosity to blonde hair, but this really did add a "glow" I wouldn't normally have. Although the gloss is clear in pigment, it worked the same kind of magic as a purple shampoo - brass was gone, and a clearer, brighter blonde remained. My hair does still need some TLC though, and it didn't totally smooth the cuticle the way I'd dreamed - I'm still grappling with flyaways. Would I use it every wash day? Absolutely not. But as a weekly treat? In my opinion, that's five minutes well spent. It's my hair, but better.'

Renee Washington beauty assistant says: 'The Perfect Hair Day High-Shine Gloss is great for adding shine without weighing down naturally dull hair (which mine is). While I usually rely on oils to achieve this, they often leave my hair looking stiff when blown out. This gloss, however, is lightweight and doesn’t create that heavy, oily look. It smooths and detangles my hair beautifully, making it ideal for when I blow dry it and want to pull it up into a quick bun. I really rate this one.'

High praise, indeed.
