Forgotten your curling tongs? Only have straighteners on hand? The art of curling your hair with straighteners is a tricky one. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, all you end up with is a minorly kinked section of hair that drops straight in a matter of minutes. Luckily for you, Grazia is here with its 'How To At Home' series to show you exactly how it's done.

Beauty editor Annie Vischer has the technique down to a fine art, and injects hair with a dose of beachy volume and waves in a matter of minutes. What better time to follow her video tutorial and finally lock down those sought-after skills for yourself? Here's how it's done.

The Step-By-Step

Make sure to spritz your hair with a heat-protect spray before you start. This ensures you ward off damage. Not convinced they work? The next time you go to dry your hair, spritz it liberally onto the back of one hand and hold the dryer on a medium heat over first, your spray-free hand, and then over your sprayed hand. You'll find you can stand to hold the dryer over the latter for a lot longer. Annie's heat protection spray of choice was Drunk Elephant's Wild Marula Tangle Spray, £22.

Brush your hair through and section it off. Annie fixes half of her hair up and half down. Take a 1-2 inch section of hair and clamp it between the straighteners with a light hold and the logo on your straighteners facing forward. Annie uses ghd's Platinum+, £189.

Slowly and gently twist your straighteners away from your face, two turns around so that the logo faces forwards again.

Next, gently pull the straightener through the length of your hair to the end. Behold a glossy curl!

Twist your fresh curl and let it cool to set the style in place.

Make your way through the rest of your hair in the same fashion.

You'll end up with a head full of perfect 'done' looking curls. Don't attempt to do anything else with them until you can touch them and be sure that there's no heat left in them.

For that beachy look, once all the curls have cooled, toss your head upside down and tousle through with your fingers, before sitting up and finding your parting again.

Spritz a fine mist of texturiser spray through the mid-lengths and ends, teasing your hair with your brush and fingers as you go. Annie loves Hair by Sam McKnight's Easy-Up Do Texture Spray, £27. There you have it! Volume-packed, beachy waves, all achieved with straighteners.
