At this point, Emma Stone has firmly cemented her status as one of Hollywood’s most beloved actresses. From Superbad and Spider-Man to La La Land and Poor Things, the star has built an impressive portfolio of critically acclaimed films. But beyond her acting prowess, Stone has also become something of a beauty muse. Her long-time make-up artist, Nina Park, has helped her become synonymous with a particular look: pale, pearlescent skin, a slick of winged liner, and soft, petal-toned lips - it's no wonder her face has been endlessly pinned and replicated across the globe.

Lately, however, it’s her hair that’s been making headlines. Spotted yesterday at the screening of her new film Bugonia, Stone debuted her auburn strands styled into a soft pixie cut. Created by Mara Roszaka - who also tends to the tresses of Haim, Zoë Saldaña and Rose Byrne - the duo have dubbed the 'do the #WhimsyPixie. A ’90s-inspired cut, it focuses on sweeping texture and gentle movement- a look that’s no doubt prompted swathes of fans to hit the like and save buttons.

But despite the #WhimsyPixie, this is not the look that’s had everyone talking.

In the trailer for Bugonia, it was revealed the actress had shaved her head entirely. Yes, Emma Stone went completely bald having had her hair shorn in real time on screen.

Revealed: Emma Stone Has Shaved Her Head

Speaking to Vogue, Stone shared how much she loved her new dramatic haircut, 'The first shower when you’ve shaved your head? Oh my God, it’s amazing.'

She also reflected on the emotional aspect of the transformation, recalling how her own mother lost her hair during treatment for breast cancer. 'She actually did something brave… I’m just shaving my head,' Stone said.

So, if the filming took place last year, why are we only seeing the look now? Stone opted to wear wigs and hats in public as her hair grew back. And now? As she returns to her iconic pixie, it's looking like she has no plans to keep the buzz-cut.

A shocking look? Certainly. But we’re sure it will all make sense when Bugonia hits screens on 31st October - Stone plays the part of Michelle, a high-powered CEO who’s kidnapped by a pair of conspiracy theorists. They believe her to be an alien and have shaved off her hair 'to prevent her from contacting her mothership.'

One thing’s clear: Stone’s commitment to her craft shows no sign of slowing- if the seven-minute standing ovation at yesterdays screening is anything to go by.
