At Valentino’s last couture show, Céline Dion could be seen weeping on the front row. It’s not entirely clear which part of the breathtakingly beautiful presentation really got her – the models appeared to float on delicate layers of taffeta and organza as the romantic strains of Roberta Flack’s ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ lightly rang out – but what was clear is that Dion is a tonic the world needs now more than ever. Having made somewhat of a comeback through fashion thanks to her overt enjoyment of couture and all its theatricality, Dion can be seen, largely on Instagram, as the very human embodiment of Living Your Best Life. Because, at 51, that’s exactly what she’s doing. There's even a Celine-approved Celine Dion biopic The Power Of Love set to drop in 2020. Now, she has been named as the new spokeswoman for a global beauty behemoth: L’Oréal Paris.
‘I never saw that coming, especially at 51 years old,’ Dion said of her new appointment. ‘I thought seriously about it because, if my name was on it, I wanted to truly believe in it. We, women, are all dealing with a society that is pushing so much today. Considering that L’Oréal Paris gives women plenty of tools to feel good, to feel strong, to have a voice, to fulfill themselves and to feel worth it, I was honored to become a global ambassador for the brand and represent women all around the world.’ Dion joins a long list of L’Oréal ambassadors, which includes Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore and Andie Macdowell – all over 50. Age, indeed, is something that Dion is aware of, but only because she seems more content now than at any other time of her life.
‘I feel so good now that I don’t even want to think about my 20s or 30s,’ she said. ‘When I was still discovering myself. For the last couple of years, I have grown in a very strong and happy way through my passions, my work, friendship, motherhood. I am now embracing myself and feel free to do what I want, where I want, when I want. I am thankful to keep going, I’ve never felt so beautiful, strong, and I feel that the best is yet to come. Today is the beginning of the rest of my life and I don’t want to go back in time, I am going forward.’
