Adele's most recent Instagram post shows her flaunting a long and curly new hair 'do and we're most definitely here for it. The question is - is this Adele embracing her natural curly hair? Or has she gotten experimental with a curling tong to achieve these wavy lengths? We naturally needed to investigate ASAP. Our first piece of evidence came via an old album picture. You see, way back when (we're talking the good old days of 2016 here), Adele released When We Were Young, one of her classic mind-blowing, tear-jerking singles, and the artwork for the single at the time revealed a rare glimpse into the singer's childhood.
A nice little throwback, sure, but this picture is intrinsic in trying to work out whether Adele's curls are natural. The picture shows a very young Adele smiling and flaunting the loss of two front teeth. Her hair? It has the sort of gentle wave many of us book blow-dry appointments to achieve. Now, Adele's hair could certainly have been styled straighter here, but we're betting that if her hair was as naturally curly as it appears to be in Adele's latest Instagram post, it wouldn't be so easy to style it into such an effortless looking style like the one she seems so happy with in the When We Were Young single artwork.
It's unikely we're ever going to get hold of a firm answer with regards to Adele's gorgeous mass of 2020 curls, but our bet is they're meticulously styled in, most likely with a chopstick styler or a very slim curling tong (want to try it for yourself at home? Make a grab for the BaByliss Tight Curls Wand, £25).
So how can we emulate Adele's beautiful curly hair style at home? According to hairstylist to the stars Patrick Wilson, if you have any hint of a natural wave, your first port of call should be to adjust your hair styling routine to encourage curls. 'You don’t want to overload wavy hair with heavy serums as this will weigh the hair down,' says Patrick. 'Start at the roots by applying a root lifter of thickening spray. On the mid-lengths and ends I would apply a finishing cream. Comb through using a wide-tooth comb. Normally I would let this style air dry. If it needs a bit of help you can encourage the roots with a light blow dry, again by tipping the head upside down using a medium head on the hairdryer with the help of a diffuser. This decreases frizz and adds shine.'
When using a chopstick styler, remember to use heat protection spray and to tousle through your lengths once your curls have cooled with your fingers. This ensures your style will look effortless, carefree and not too 'done' - we're talking Adele levels of cool here.
