I’ve Been Wearing This New Perfume For A Week And Already Strangers Are Stopping Me In The Street To Ask Me About It

It's a floral scent, but not as you know it

I have always been sceptical of so-called pheromone perfumes, the ones marketed as irresistible, chemistry-altering fragrances designed to make you the most ‘magnetic person’ in the room. To me, they’ve always felt like a bit of a gimmick - a placebo effect wrapped up in a bottle. Maybe that’s why I didn’t totally take to Glossier’s original fragrance, You, when it launched back in 2017. I liked the idea of a scent that worked with your skin, but I didn’t love how it smelled on mine.

The top notes just didn’t sit right. The main note was Ambrox, a synthetic molecule that gave it a warm, musky, ambery feel - minimal and modern. It became a cult favourite for a reason. But honestly? I wasn’t a fan. On me, it smelled like pencil shavings (sorry!). Last year, Glossier expanded the line with two new scents: Doux, a woody take, and Rêve, which is more creamy and sweet.

So when I first heard about Glossier You Eau de Parfum: Fleur - a fresh take on a skin-scent-style perfume - I wasn’t exactly sprinting to try it. I’ve never been a floral fragrance girl. Powdery florals make me feel like I’ve walked through a department store circa 2000. On paper, Fleur just didn’t sound like my kind of thing. I lean into woody, spicy, vanilla-heavy scents - the kind that feel rich, warm, and maybe even a little moody. But then the compliments started coming in. A week into wearing Fleur and I have had no less than six strangers ask me what perfume I’m wearing. I’ve been chased down at the post office, complimented in the gym, and even asked in an Uber. So, yes - it’s fair to say this fragrance has shifted something.

Fleur is not your average floral scent. It’s not cloying or powdery, it opens with neroli and pear, making it feel fresh, light, almost dewy. There’s orange blossom in there too, but it’s grounded by the signature Glossier skin scent DNA: soft musk, iris, and that warm Ambrox base that changes on your skin. It’s clean, it’s a little flirtatious and it doesn’t smell like anyone else in the room.

I thought I had my everyday scent sorted (a woody-vanilla blend I’ve loved for years), but Fleur is quietly convincing me otherwise. It’s one of those rare fragrances that feels fresh - like it belongs to you the second it hits your skin. I love layering it too.

Spring has sprung but in a bottle, a light floral scent that wears close to skin. Perfect for the season.
