And they’re off! Awards season is now in full swing after last night's Golden Globes ceremony (here's everything you need to know, incase you opted to sleep instead), which saw the world's most beautiful stars outdo themselves on the red carpet. It's often considered a warm-up for events like the Oscars and the BAFTAs, but this year the Best Dressed award was hotly contested, with honourable efforts from the likes of Alicia Vikander, Jennifer Lawrence and a newly-engaged Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Here's our verdict on the fifteen standout styles of the night.
**1. Jennifer Lawrence Golden Globes Best Dressed **
Not only did J-Law walk away with a Best Actress gong for her performance in Joy, she also killed it on the red carpet in this cut-out Dior couture gown, topped off with over 156 carats of Chopard diamonds.
-
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley never looks anything less than heavenly, but this delicate beaded gown by Atelier Versace (teamed with her huge new engagement ring) has to be one of her best looks of all time.
-
Zendaya **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
Zendaya confirmed her status as a style star to watch in this dreamy tiered dress by Marchesa. Extra points for the sartorial nod to the red dress dancing lady emoji.
-
Saoirse Ronan **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
Now that we've learned how to pronounce her name properly, we can't stop talking about Saoirse Ronan. The *Brooklyn *star and Best Actress nominee looked every inch the Grecian goddess in this draped ivory silk gown by Yves Saint Laurent couture.
-
Brie Larson **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
Her Best Actress win has set up Brie (yep, like the cheese) Larson as this year's breakout star. She dressed for success in a hand-embroidered custom gown designed by Calvin Klein's creative director, Francisco Costa.
-
Kate Winslet **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
It was a great night for Kate, who walked off with a Globe for Best Supporting Actress, reunited with *Titanic *co-star Leonardo DiCaprio and looked on point in this classic halter-neck gown by Ralph Lauren.
-
Alicia Vikander **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
*The Danish Girl *star looked positively angelic in this simple Louis Vuitton gown. We're counting down the days until her next red carpet appearance.
-
Rooney Mara **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
Rooney Mara is lauded for her off-beat red carpet choices - this wonderfull ethereal gown by Alexander McQueen is a winner in our books.
-
Amy Adams **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
Who says red-heads can't do orange? Not Amy Adams, who wore a tomato-hued gown with sequin panelling by Atelier Versace.
-
Jennifer Lopez **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
How does J-Lo do it? The star (who seems to be ageing backwards, seriously) did an Angelina in a canary yellow gown with a dramatic thigh-high split.
-
Eva Green **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
Lace, embellishment and nude tones aren't always the best of combinations, but we think former Bond girl Eva pulls off this Elie Saab gown with aplomb.
-
Kirsten Dunst **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
Her red carpet style never fails to amaze, and Kirsten Dunst looked pretty incredible in this black velvet (and seriously low-cut) number by Valentino.
-
Lily James **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
Costume drama darling and star of *War and Peace, *Lily James channelled her breakout role in *Cinderella *in this fairytale style by Marchesa. We're obsessed with the neckline.
-
Jaimie Alexander **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
This dramatic emerald-hued dress with a super-plunging neckline was anything but a safe choice, but it's one that certainly paid off for Jaimie Alexander, who presented an award on the night.
-
Julianne Moore **Golden Globes Best Dressed **
Head-to-toe blue sequins and a velvet collar detail might not sound like the best idea on paper, but Julianne Moore is dazzling in this Tom Ford number.
