Here’s Why We’re Still Buying Our Underwear At Marks & Spencer - And Always Will

Not only is M&S a destination for lingerie in its own right, but it now also stocks some of the world’s leading brands including Freya, Triumph and Fantasie.

I’ll admit that when I was first dragged around a Marks & Spencer store by my mum while she hunted for bras, I was kicking my heels. Forgive me, but I had better things to do in the 90’s and didn’t really appreciate just what a mammoth task finding a decent set of underwear was at the time. Around 20 years ago, online shopping was but a twinkle in our eye and it was slim pickings when it came to finding lingerie on the high street. Marks and Spencer was the default option for finding good quality styles at affordable prices, and when it came time to get fitted for my own bra (a right of passage for many of us) there was only one place I was headed to. Flash forward to now and while there is a new generation of independent brands and high street names creating their own ranges, the M&S lingerie section is still going from strength to strength.

Finding the perfect fitting bra is no mean feat and that is where Marks & Spencer is still focusing most of its efforts. Where other high street brands invest heavily on style, they still lack the substance (read: support) that anyone over a 32B needs. M&S, on the other hand, has only strengthened its offering over the years, maintaining practicality while expanding its choice and designs. Now, it’s gone one step further to include a selection of leading lingerie labels alongside its own so that there are more options than ever – and more chance of you finding the perfect style without having to visit umpteen stores and websites to find it. Many of us would perhaps steer clear of shopping for lingerie online for this very reason, but being able to try so many brands on for size with one delivery (and only one return if you need it) is invaluable to anyone who usually struggles with sizes.

So, who has been added to the ever-growing M&S roster? Pretty brands such as Fantasie, and Freya, and solutions-superstars Triumph and Wonderbra have thankfully been available to buy as part of your regular shop for some time, while newcomers such as Elomi will bring a new range of styles designed for curvier women with sizes going up to a 48 back and K cup. There’s even chic maternity lingerie from Hotmilk, meaning every kind of need is catering for in one place. Ready to add some new names to your knicker drawer? Big boob owners, rejoice! Fantasie is for you. Catering to sizes D-JJ, they're the leading lingerie brand at M&S for a good reason. Larger bust sizes are usually impossible to find easily on the high street, especially in the kind of pretty everyday styles you'd actually want to wear. Fantasie ticks off practicality with super supportive styles, while ensuring everything is finished in a way you wouldn't mind showing off.

Elomi is a fuller figure lingerie brand backing itself to provide unparalleled fit, comfort and support for sizes up to a K cup and 48 back - sizes rarely supported on the high street, and even less so as stylish as this.

Wonderbra needs little introduction as the leading name in giving your assets a boost when you need it most. True to its 90s heritage, the styles are super classic and often minimalist in themselves, making them a true underwear drawer essential. But there's a whole host of different solutions that go far beyond your standard push up bra. The

DKNY is synonymous with laidback New York attitude, with the sort of logo-driven crop tops that would look great alone with vintage-wash denim and a white shirt like the supermodel ads of the 90s. For those looking for ultimate comfort, their signature Cosy Boyfriend range is essential.

Hotmilk is world-renowned for developing styles to support women throughout their pregnancy journey, from maternity to nursing and beyond. Think pump bras and everyday basics designed for feeding, to ultra-supportive yet gorgeous designs to make you feel good as you navigated your changing body.
