Tinder has become the Muhammad Ali of the online dating scene – mainly because everything, from setting it up and immediately using it to finding potential suitors is so easy. Except for if you don’t have (or don’t want to use) Facebookto connect to it.
To open a Tinder account you need to have a Facebook account, but what are you meant to do if you don’t have a Facebook account, or don’t want to connect your Facebook account to your Tinder? Miss out on all the bad dates and the weirdos?
Don’t write it off just yet – here’s how to get involved in Tinder, minus the Facebook (sort of).
How can I set-up a Tinder account without a Facebook account?
The very short answer to this is: you can’t. But what you can do is complain about this to Tinder and you never know, maybe they will change this soon. You’re definitely not the only one unhappy about this.
I don’t have Facebook but I want to use Tinder! What do I do?
Set-up a Facebook account. Yes, we know. It sucks but there’s no way around it… for now. You don’t have to add any friends, and you don’t even have to use your real name (it would obviously be great for potential matches if you did use your real information so that they don’t end up dating a big fat liar. Just saying).
You only need to input your basic info, ie sex (as in male/female, not ‘None, hence why I desperately need Tinder’), date of birth, and upload any photos you want Tinder peeps to see.
Setting up a Facebook account is extremely easy. You just need an email address and we trust you have one of those.
I have a Facebook account but I don’t want to have it connected with Tinder for privacy reasons.
We hear you. Unfortunately, you can’t completely disconnect Tinder from Facebook, but you can do the following through Facebook to tighten up your privacy settings:
-
Avoid Tinder stalkers from finding you through mutual friends. Go to your ‘Friends’ and click on ‘Manage’. Click on ‘Edit Privacy’.
-
Make sure your friends list is only visible by you.
-
Go to ‘Privacy’ and change the settings for who can contact you and how they can find you, accordingly. Make sure your private information, such as phone number and email address, is not visible to just anyone.
-
Make your Facebook profile unsearchable on Google (another way to avoid Tinder pervs, or pervs in general). Tinder only shows a first name, so it’s highly unlikely that someone will be able to find your Facebook profile by just Googling your name, but just in case, hide your profile from search engines if you want that extra security.
I don’t want to connect my Facebook to Tinder. The end.
OK, well since you’re being a brat about it, the only other way is to create another Facebook account. Not a faux account per se, but another, simpler account with all your real details – but again, you only need to have your basic details and a few pictures that you want Tinder users to see.
If you already have a Tinder account connected to your Facebook and you want to go down this ‘separate account’ route, then go into Tinder settings and click on ‘Delete Account’, then log in with your new Facebook.
