Turns out that, after decades of people assuming that men desire, want and care about sex more than women, this generation of teenagers have realised that we’re all as kinky as each other. What a relief.

The Uppsala University, which was released on Monday in the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, found that the 8,000 Swedish upper-secondary school students polled actually now have far more similar attitudes towards sex than anyone has ever realised. Here’s what we learnt by reading the Swedish research:

Guys might watch more porn, but we fantasise about the same things

The teenage boys polled apparently consumed more porn and thought about it more than the girls in the study, but both sexes actually fantasised about the same things and the men weren’t more likely to go for ‘extreme’ porn than the women were. There was also no real differences between the number of teen males or females who said their sexual behaviour was influenced by porn in a big way, which casts a shadow of doubt on the theory that young men are more affected by porn than young women.

Unsurprisingly, teens who watched porn wanted to watch more

This one’s a bit of a no-brainer, but the teens who did watch porn had more favourable attitudes towards it in general, with one in 10 females who admitted to watching porn saying they watch it less than they’d like.

Girls were generally more experienced

The girls in the study were more experienced than the guys were in oral, anal and vaginal sex and both sexes were equally likely to have one night stands, group sex and friends with benefits, and both genders maintained that men and women are as interested in sex as each other. That’s why it’s surprising that…

Teens still think guys should have more partners than girls

Here’s the bad news – some traditional sexual stereotypes were still believed by the teens. Despite the fact the girls were more experienced, both sexes believed that it was more OK for guys to have multiple sexual partners than it was for girls.

So, even for these kids, it looks like ‘slut shaming’ is still a hard attitude to shake…
