Study Reveals What Makes People Swipe Right And Left On Dating Apps

A study by the dating app Badoo has revealed exactly what kind of pictures makes people swipe right and left on dating apps. Pictures are the first thing that a potential bae will see when they come across your profile on the app, so it makes sense to want to put your best foot forward. But, just what kind of photos are actually increasing your odds of getting a match, and which ones are resulting in a swipe to the left? Thanks to the Badoo survey, we now know.

After surveying 5,000 people, Badoo has revealed which photos are total turn-ons, and which ones are turn-offs. The results are *very *interesting...

What makes women swipe right:

  • A profile picture in the countryside – 30%

  • A profile picture with a dog in it – 29%

  • A profile picture showing tattoos – 18%

  • A man with a beard - 18%

  • A profile picture showing a car - 7%

  • A profile photo taken in the gym - 8%

It would seem that women love a guy who's at one with nature - well, according to 30% of the women surveyed, anyway. Tattoos and beards are also favoured highly.

What makes women swipe left:

  • A photo of them with an attractive woman – 54%

  • Group photos in which it is hard to tell which is them – 49%

  • Shirtless photos – 47%

  • A profile photo taken in the gym – 37%

  • A mirror selfie – 32%

  • Posing with safari animals – 19%

These results didn't really shock us, because tbh, we're not that interested in seeing a thousand topless pictures of a man in his gym shorts lifting weights. Instead, we'd much rather see some cute pictures of a dog. Take note, guys.

What makes men swipe right:

  • A photo of them in their underwear or bikini – 33%

  • A profile picture in the countryside – 33%

  • A profile photo taken in the gym – 25%

  • A mirror selfie – 21%

  • A profile picture with a dog in it – 21%

  • A profile picture showing tattoos – 14%

Semi-naked pictures seem to be the winning-deal for getting a match on a dating app (we won't even pretend to act surprised at this result). But some good news: men also like profile pictures taken in the countryside or with a dog.

What makes men swipe left:

  • Group photos in which it is hard to tell which is them – 40%

  • A photo of them with an attractive man – 34%

  • A photo of them taken with a filter (eg dog nose, ears etc) – 29%

  • Lack of a full length photo – 21%

  • A photo of them in their underwear – 20%

  • A photo of them riding a horse – 12%

If anything, this survey just shows how picky we really are when it comes to dating - the slightest thing like a profile picture could completely give us the 'ick'. But hey, we reckon it pays to be picky in love. After all, you don't want to settle, do you?
