Cara Delevingne’s Co-Star Nat Wolff Defends Her Awkward ‘Paper Towns’ Interview

Cara Delevingne's awkward Paper Towns interview [scroll down for a recap] may have happened over a month ago, but it seems it's still a hot topic concerning the star. Even Richard Madden spoke out about it labelling her "ungrateful".

But now, her co-star Nat Wolff has now had his say on it, and reveals that it didn't cause Cara any stress. In fact she "she just doesn't care" what people had to say about it. He also defended his friend, saying he doesn't think she was being rude - that's just "her sense of humour."

Asked by* Nylon* about the controversy the interview caused, he explained: "Yeah, I just thought that was just way overblown. I think Cara is a great person and everyone who knows he loves her, so I wanted to be like, “World, you go it wrong!”'

On whether it frustrated him on behalf of his friend he added: "I mean, I didn’t take it that seriously. All that stuff, you take it for what it’s worth. I watched the thing, and part of her sense of humour is that sarcasm, and it’s totally out of love, and I think it was just not that big of a deal.

"I thought that when she got off, and they started talking about her after she left, I thought that’s what inspired a lot of the people to go on. And I think that was kind of rude, and then it became about picking sides between the two of them. And Cara and I talked about it, and she just doesn’t care."

Remember when Cara Delevingne got a lot of flack for an ever-so-slightly awkward interview during the Paper Towns press tour? Fans of the model and actress, and Paper Towns author John Green, said that Cara wasn't doing anything wrong, just responding naturally to "lazy" questions.

And now we've been reminded of the whole thing again, as Game of Thrones and Lady Chatterley's Lover star Richard Madden was asked about Cara in a recent interview. Madden made it quite clear what he thought of Ms Delevingne's behaviour, calling her "ungrateful".

"It was unprofessional,” he told Yahoo! Lifestyle of the interview. "It made her seem ungrateful. She showed her age. For Cinderella, I did six weeks of those interviews, where you get asked the same eight questions."

He added: “If you’re not capable of doing that gracefully, then don’t do it,” he continued.

Now Cara has hit back at Madden herself on social media, tweeting:

"I have no idea who you are but I think it's little desperate for a grown man to be bad mouthing someone they don't know".

She added: "If you really want attention that badly, try focusing on your own work and not other people's".

Earlier this week, Cara Delevingne hit headlines when a video went viral of one very awkward interview about her movie Paper Towns with a US morning show called Good Day Sacramento. The three hosts went as far as to advise the 22-year-old to 'take a nap' after taking her sarcastic humour, well, pretty badly.

News outlets are in two camps: some are calling Cara rude and entitled for her sarky showdown, while others (including ourselves) have embraced the actress' ability to make light of a situation where she faced a series of increasingly poorly informed questions. Now Paper Towns author John Green has had his say, praising the 22-year-old actress for refusing "to indulge in lazy questions" and being "f***ing interesting".

Writing on his blog John said: "Cara has read the book (multiple times), but the question is annoying - not least because her male co-star, Nat Wolff, was almost always asked when he'd read the book, while Cara was almost always asked if she'd read it (sic)."

He added: "Cara, however, refuses to stick to the script. She refuses to indulge lazy questions and refuses to turn herself into an automaton to get through long days of junketry."

"I don't find that behavior entitled or haughty. I find it admirable. Cara Delevingne doesn't exist to feed your narrative or your news feed - and that's precisely why she's so f--ing interesting (sic)."

Cara Delevingne has had her first full-on experience of what it's like to promote a starring role in a movie over the past few weeks, as she's attended premieres, parties and interviews galore for* Paper Towns*. And she's also just experienced what it's like to have a very awkward interview go viral.

The morning after a premiere for the film, Cara appeared on a local US morning show called* Good Day Sacramento*, and a very strange exchange ensued between the 22-year-old and the three hosts.

One of the interviewers kicks things off on a bum note by accidentally calling the 22-year-old 'Carla'. A string of poorly informed questions ensue, prompting sarcastic anwers from Cara. The first: did she read the book before undertaking the role, to which she jokingly replies: "No I never read the book or the script actually, I kind of winged it."

And things go from bad to worse when they ask why she seems less enthusuastic about the movie than she did a few weeks back, and enquire if she's "just exhausted." She explains she's simply tired from the "emotional" premiere the night before.

They then go on to ask if she's "irritated". The whole awkward shebang finally comes to a close as one anchor suggests: “We’ll let you go then, how ’bout that? Why don’t you go take a little nap, maybe get a Red Bull?”

In response, Cara can be heard muttering "too far," before another interviewer makes a thinly veiled jibe: "She's also in Taylor Swift's Bad Blood video, how about that." Ouch.

The day after the interview, she tweeted in response to the viral video: "some people just don't understand British sarcasm or the British sense of humour."
