We always knew there was a reason why those weekend lie-ins felt so good.
And it's got nothing to do with the fact our alarms don't go off, we aren't rushing around the house flinging outfits out of the cupboard, or sitting on a packed bus, feeling grey and looking grey and looking out at grey skies, as raindrops slip lazily down the window beside us, blurring our view of commuters struggling against the wind with flimsy umbrellas on the high street.
No, it's because lie-ins are good for our health. Like OVS – but they're only good for us ladies. Sorry lads!
Scientists have revealed (we LOVE it when such things are backed-up by science) that more sleep for women results in lowering the risks of developing type 2 diabetes.
Now how's that for convenient?!
In a study made up of 800 men and women in their middle ages, participants were required to wear a device which chartered their sleep and examined how their bodies used the hormone, insulin. The results revealed that when women had more hours of sleep, their bodies became better at using it. Unfortunately though, more sleep for men meant their ability to use insulin actually decreased.
Sorry about that!
This is grrrrreat news for us ladies though. In fact, we think that, armed with this new information, we have a great case to take to our bosses, to request that work on Monday should now start, not at 9am but, hmm, around midday? And also on Tuesday. And Wednesday. And the rest.
And speaking of rest, since we didn't have our lie-in this morning it's probably best for our health to have a quick one now, you know, to take our lie-in in lieu right this minute.
So on that note, nighty-night all!
