It can take months, maybe even years, to get over a break-up. And as you sit there surrounded by sodden tissues and scrunched-up chocolate wrappers, the Netflix logo engrained in your brain, you’re probably doubting that your ex feels the same.

But chances are, he’s feeling even worse than you are. Yes, seriously. Though we can't guarantee that he's watching Bridget Jones on repeat...

According to a new study, which began back in the year 2000, men take longer to recover from a failed relationship than women.

The study assessed the emotional state of 2,000 divorced men and women by revisiting them between six and seven years later.

Results revealed that women gradually became more extravert in the following years post-breakup whilst men still appeared emotionally unstable.

So next time you’re Facebook stalking your ex and he appears to be out having a good time with his friends, he’s probably not having as much fun as you think.
