There are few things that help us unwind after a long day at work like a good glass of red wine. In fact, for better or worse, we're feeling slightly more zen just thinking about it right now.
Throw into the equation the fact that when enjoyed in moderation, our favourite alcoholic beverage can actually have anti-ageing benefits (thanks to super-ingredient resveratrol, which is packed with anti-oxidants and is found in high end skincare products) and you might start thinking that a red wine spa might actually be quite a good idea...
Until, that is, you think of the practical implications of making like Cleopatra and splashing around in a vat of full-bodied Chianti.
However, this hasn't phased visitors to the Yunesson Spa Resort in Hakone, Japan, where guests can legitimately bathe in a huge outdoor pool of Merlot, all while enjoying a glass of red - freshly poured from a 12 foot (yes, that's 12 foot) bottle of wine that's perched on the poolside. We're not quite sure whether this is the worst idea of all time, or one of the best, but it's certainly unorthodox.
Not only does the resveratrol in the wine help protect the skin from environmental damage, visitors have also described the experience as 'relaxing' in their Trip Advisor reviews. Hmm.
The spa also boasts a ramen pool (where guests sit in 'bowls' overshadowed by outsize fake noodles), a green tea pool (which is touted as great for the immune system) and a sake bath, which reportedly works its magic on dark spots and imperfections.
Cheers, we guess...
